It's been a few years since I've been here but I do remember the last time I was here. Myself and 2 friends from childhood went in for lunch. It was a little busy but quiet enough to hear our conversations. I've been in the biz since I was 15. Italians were my go to jobs because it was my very first one and those were my comfort zones. My mother and her best friend were the only servers at this little, tiny, 9 table, pizza joint called Josie's in Boynton Beach. (Steve, his brothers, Manny and Eric, and their mother Denise were and still are the owners. Willy, one of the cooks (who's also still at Josie's) was from Haiti theSince the dining room was so small but the food and service was excellent, word got out about what a great place this was. As they got busier, the delivery drivers (man that was a great first job) didn't have enough time to do all the prepping, answering the phones, taking cash at the register and deliver. So I just turned 15, in 1995 and they needed help and fast. So I was called to work at one of the greatest pizza joints of all time. Back then, everything was hand written and besides my mom, who is a lefty with beautiful hand writting, my right hand came in a very close second. Lol. Even the credit cards had to be run through a machine and when ppl called to place an order and paid by check or credit card, they openly and freely gave up their information for that great Italian dish. Clocked in using a time card and my "official Josie's name" was "phone girl" lol. I was their very first. My station was a big desk with a cash register, stool, note pads, pens, to go boxes and bags along with a big plastic pitcher for my tips. Along with my $9hr pay(cash) every Wed, I was also tipped very well by the drivers, my mom (server Ma?! Ma?! MA!!!) and her best friend, the other server (server Vick?! Vickie?! VICKAAAAYYYY?!) Paved the way for many more girls to get jobs. Eventually as years passed, "food prep, cashier, drink runner, food runner, table bussing, silverware rolling, bartending, phone girl" was on every time card I punched and was probably the highest paid 17 year old in school. I really enjoyed working at Josie's, fell in love with the family owned and operated, cozy ma and pa pizza joint. My first real paying job but by the time they moved to the new, bigger, better, right on the inlet and the bridge on Woolbright Rd, more sophisticated but still one of the greatest pizza joints of my time, I was on my way to Augy's Pizzeria Italian Restaurant. The 2nd best of my time. That's when I blossomed. Even though that was a long review about a different pizza place, New York Style Pizza & Restaurant just reminded me of it and the point I wanted to make was that the restaurant was packed, all employees seemed to be in sink with each other and like I said, we could talk comfortably with each other. Which means that if they're not talking, they're eating and that's a...
Read moreWe decided we wanted pizza on Easter, there were not a lot of places open. We called a bunch of pizza places that we were familiar with, none were open. We found New York Style Pizza and Restaurant was open so we headed there.
When we walked in, there were three hostesses at the counter. We listened to them finish their conversation before they were able to acknowledge us being there. They didn't say welcome, or anything friendly, just how many? We told them four, they grabbed menus and one girl said "follow me." Um, ok, Happy Easter to you too.
We were seated a few minutes later, our waiter came over for our drink orders. The next person we saw, five minutes later was the person delivering our drinks. My 15 year old daughter was served her drink in a cup with a lid and my seven year old got his drink in a glass. Even though, it was obvious that they messed up, initially, no one tried to correct this. We asked if he could send the waiter over to take our order. We placed an order for a dozen rolls and two pizzas. When the rolls arrived, my husband asked for additional butter. We never did get it.
When the pizzas arrived, we were excited to try them. The pizza was not good. The dough was tough, and the pizza was extremely greasy. Our drinks were empty throughout the meal as well.
We didn't even finish the first pizza as none of us liked it at all. We asked for a doggie box or the rolls and made it clear that we were not taking the other pizza.
We requested our bill. No one at any time asked how the food was. When we were walking out, our waiter stopped us and told us we forgot our pizza. We told him no, we had made it clear that we didn't want the pizza. My husband also told him that we were very unhappy with the service we received. He did not say much, just sort of stood there and looked at us. One of the hostesses was listening as well. You would think that at some point, they would have called a...
Read moreOur friends told us that this is a local great little pizza and italian restaurant. And just happened to be one of the only Christmas night restaurants open. We had a nice afternoon and evening, and during a rainy day today, we hit the movies and joined a few of our friends at this nice Italian restaurant that you would never notice from the street. We had a reservation as our friends knew to make one. While waiting for our table, I had a chance to speak to the folks behind the counter that worked here. I met the dad, who was the pizza maker and owner Sal. His son Joey was so happy to discuss his father's success and that the food was great and made some amazing food suggestions to order. We were seated, and Ramond was so busy, but when it came time to take care of us, he was as attentive to us as if the place was all to ourselves, but the place was packed and made some size suggestions on our orders. We went with Antipasto for 2 and a Ceasar salad for 2, a bowl of pasta fazoli, a very tasty fried calamari, and a large pepperoni, and onion pizza pie. our other friends had a meatball pie. Finishes our meals with cappuccino and an Italian rainbow cake. What a great. NY style meal. I felt like I was sitting in a local Brooklyn restaurant! The food was delicious, and the service was excellent on even a crazy busy night. Next time I get to this place, I am going to try some of the delicious looking items that came out of the kitchen. Thanks for an amazing dinner. I can't wait to come back! Update 1/1/24 So we could not wait to come back so on New Year Day we had dinner here with our parents. we had an order of Veal Parmigian and 2 orders of the New York style chicken. that was delicious! And my mom blurted out at the table while enjoying her dinner that "this is the beat veal cutlets I have ever eaten!" The pasta fagioli was perfect and thick. And the fresh garlic rolls were...
