Title: Terrible Experience: Discrimination and False Information About ADA Laws/ verbally accosted, attempted physical intimidation
My wife and I recently had the misfortune of visiting Peculiar Pub in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, and it was an experience we will not soon forget, but for all the wrong reasons. As individuals with disabilities who rely on a service dog, we were met with discrimination, hostility, and outright lies from the establishment's owners.
Upon entering the pub, we were verbally accosted by an employee, later revealed to be one of the owners, who aggressively demanded that we remove our clearly identified service dog from the premises. Despite our attempts to explain that the dog was a medical service animal protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the owner insisted on denying us entry, citing false information about county and state laws regarding service animals.
Throughout the encounter, the owners repeatedly claimed to have conducted thorough research with Manatee County officials, who allegedly informed them that they had the right to choose whether to allow service dogs in their establishment. These blatant lies were used to intimidate and discriminate against us, and it is unacceptable.
Not only did the owners violate ADA regulations by refusing us entry with our service dog, but they also perpetuated discrimination against individuals with disabilities by spreading false information about their legal obligations. It is appalling that in this day and age, businesses continue to engage in such reprehensible behavior.
I urge anyone considering patronizing Peculiar Pub to think twice and reconsider supporting an establishment that condones discrimination and misinformation. No one deserves to be treated with such disrespect and hostility simply because they rely on a service animal for assistance.
In conclusion, our experience at Peculiar Pub was nothing short of disgraceful. I implore the owners to educate themselves on ADA laws and treat all patrons with the dignity and respect...
Read moreWe had a GREAT experience + dinner at Peculiar Pub.
Food: The menu is excellent. The portions are perfect i.e., they aren’t huge + oversized, which I GREATLY appreciate.
They serve homemade pickles as a small bar snack — really delicious with a hint of spice.
We ordered:
• Greek Yogurt Dip (8 out of 10) • Buffalo Chicken Meatballs (10 out of 10) • Hearts of Romaine Salad (8 out of 10) • Sloppy Peculiarwhich with Cowboy Caviar (10 out of 10) • Nachos with Pulled Pork (12 out of 10)
The food was very fresh & made with quality ingredients.
Drinks: They have a great selection of beers. We wanted a Guinness, but they swapped out the Guinness keg for a local option. We were skeptical at first, but wow - it was very similar to Guinness. We’re always happy to support a local business, which makes it even better.
They also offer a small selection of wine.
Service: The service was top notch. We had a really good time talking to Tom (bartender), Evan (chef), and the other guys.
Ambiance: It’s only a small pub but it has a great vibe. Lots of TVs and the perfect quaint spot for sports.
Location: It’s conveniently located on Main Street LWR, across from Remi’s.
Overall, I highly recommend Peculiar Pub. It’s a welcoming spot with good food...
Read moreCraft Growlers to Go was for many a hard act to follow and its first iteration as the now Peculair Pub was sadly not quite up to scratch, with other places in the locale offering a better sport’s bar experience. But now the new new owners of Peculiar who took over the new pub recently have undertaken a great job of capturing the family atmosphere of the old Craft, introduced a decent selection of craft beers which were badly missed and above all have made a huge difference in the quality and sophistication of the food. albeit not a huge menu but still having a small kids selection. Still sports bar themed, but with much more of a quality local pub atmosphere. Fantastic staff. Great food. Great beer. Good for the family without all the noise and bustle of a bigger place. Great location in...
