The restaurant is definitely authentic, as the chef and some servers are French. That being said, I felt that the menu selection (aside from a couple of specific items) was more of a "European flare", rather than "authentically and exclusively French", which is what I expected when we went there. We ordered the foie Gras, to my surprise, it came out as a Terrine/pate (not the way I prefer it, but this is totally subjective. The foie Gras terrine was delicious, though). I ordered the chicken Normande (Normamdy-style chicken). Well, that was very bland. I must note though that the potatoes Dauphinois, as well as the little square soufflé-like vegetable mix was delicious. The Beau Rivage red wine was not great, but then again, I chose it, so that one was on me. They have a wide selection of various wine brands you can choose from. Other members of my party ordered and enjoyed the steak and the Marinere mussels. Do not skip the after-dinner coffee! We ordered 2 and they were both delicious (the Viennois is yummy!). Now, I've saved the best for last: the staff is extremely friendly (I was about to ask our Irish server if he's got some room in his life for a new, eccentric best friend by the end of our dinner). We arrived very early and they tried their very best to accommodate us. they lit the torch for us because it was getting chilly. They are very professional, hard-working, quick, witty, pleasant. I will go back and try the steak and mussels next time and maybe ask for wine recommendations (instead of picking one myself). All in all, good experience and I didn't leave hungry, or sober. That's a successful evening. And my quest to find the greatest French restaurant near me continues...(well, I've actually traveled 1.5 hours to get to this one coz I'm a sucker for potatoes Dauphinois. What can I say?). I'll dine here again, though, coz their customer service...
Read moreHear ye hear ye to my raving review! This place is amazeballs. This place is magnificent! This place will leave you melting on your chair. Now, that we got that out the way let us begin with the why. So, I was going to my regular craft spot and figured I'd grab a bite to eat. So, I parked next to the glorious bistro that was filled with people people watching. I guess this is what people do in France at the cafe. So, I'm intrigued by the crowd I go in.
The menu in my opinion was lackluster. So, I asked for the special and it was eggs Benedict with shrimp and avocado. Now I'm not a shrimp fan but I figured let's give it a whirl. But to be on the safe side I had 1 bacon as well. It took a while for them to prepare this sensory delight. You see the picture right. Well forget it the pleasure is all in your mouth. Best eggs Benedict ever. Just simply beautiful. The sauce looked thick but was actually really light and buttery and decadent. And, when you had the bacon and the sauce it was just the perfectly necessary hint of salt. Yum yum.
Then the bread now I never really thought about just how bread can make or break and egg yolk. But somehow the egg yolk made the buttery notes of the bread stand out. Man oh man eggs Benedict will never be the same after this. And, to add the the experience the chef can look out over the customers. And he did and after my first blissful bite I could see that he saw I loved it. You could see the joy from him all over his face. Idk about you but I want to eat in a space where people love to give you a beautiful experience. It was a I'm happy your elated and im elated that your elated experience....
Read moreI don't normally write reviews of restaurants, but in this case I have to make an exception in the hope that it will be read by the management. We had a reservation for this restaurant. We were not greeted by anyone at the entrance. We stood here for several minutes without anyone paying any attention to us. When an employee came near us, we asked her about our reservation. Unfortunately, she couldn't help us as she was only clearing away the dishes. A few minutes later, she then spoke to an employee at the bar, who was able to join us a short time later. We told her our name and reservation number. She turned around, left us standing there and went to a PC at the bar. From there she gave us a sign, pointed to a table behind a wall and called out that this is our table. We went to the spot and saw a small table between the bar and a wall, no bigger than 2 by 2 feet. We were so shocked by this table that I asked again if it was really our table. The employee just said “yes” as she walked away, she had no interest in finding out what we disliked, let alone finding a solution. We found the employee's behavior so disparaging towards us and the table did not invite us to have a nice dinner, so we left the restaurant. Even in a “simple” restaurant, such as Applebee's or Hooters, we are greeted at the entrance and escorted to our table. But we did not experience even these simple standards of respect and friendliness in...
