A truly great find, a little gem in Wellington for some good Indian food. Nestled inside the old Wellington mall (about ten minutes drive from the glamours Wellington Mall), this restaurant may not be easily spotted. But if you find it, you will not be disappointed. Getting to the restaurant thru the entrance of the mall required a little bit of walking. The restaurant entrance is over looking a rather unique, old time amusement theme scenery. The restaurant it self is a decent size, with bar and plenty of seating. We visited to try their lunch buffet, not expecting much at $13/person for week days pricing. Upon seated, we were served with some fresh and warm Naan bread. Buffet consists of soups, fresh salad, couple of creamy Indian salads, with sauces and chutneys. They were some aromatic basmati rice, curried varieties of Indian side dishes and vegetables. Meat entrees were Chicken Tandoori and curried goat. Everything was delicious, fresh and tasty. I was surprised of how good the food were, considering the buffet concept. For the price, it is absolutely well worth it. I did encounter one small issue: there was a fly hovering around the buffet area, most likely flew in from an exit door that was located directly at the end on the soup station of the buffet. Apparently, you could also access the restaurant thru this door, instead of walking thru the mall like we did. Service was very good as well. Our waiter was very friendly, polite and attentive. Overall, it was a very good first time experience. We can't wait to go back to try their regular menu. Or check out the more extensive weekend buffet selection for...

This was my 3rd visit to Raja Indian Cuisine & Bar, and overall it’s a solid go-to for authentic Indian flavors in generous portions.

Favorites: • Mulligatawny Soup (10/10): Vegan, rich, and flavorful—carrots, lentils, apple, coconut cream, and curry come together beautifully. A must-try! • Chicken 65 (10/10): Perfectly fried, flour-coated chicken breast bites tossed with curry leaves and a sprinkle of chaat masala. We chose medium heat—flavorful with just the right kick. • Chicken Biryani (9/10): Fragrant with visible whole spices, served with delicious raita. Chicken was tender and plentiful (at least 4+ pieces). • Masala Chai (10/10): Absolutely nailed it—comforting and well-spiced.

Others: • Chicken Hakka Noodles (7/10): Loaded with veggies but mild request made it under-seasoned—garlic, soy, and ketchup got toned down too much. Mild shouldn’t mean bland! • Pakal Chicken (4/10): Disappointing. Lacked depth, and chicken felt like it was added to curry as an afterthought. • Rice Kheer (6/10): Too sweet and runny—expected a thicker, more custard-like texture. • Ras Malai (8/10): Served chilled, flavorful and soft. A good dessert option. • Chapati vs. Roti: Chapati wins—softer and better texture.

General Notes: • Generous portion sizes, especially rice and noodle dishes. • Hidden location—entry is at the back of the mall and doesn’t look inviting, but inside it’s beautifully decorated with Indian vibes. • AC is strong, so bring a layer! • If you’re not used to Indian/Pakistani spice levels, stick with mild. I go for medium to spicy.

Verdict: Worth it. A few misses, but the hits are strong enough to keep...

the person who recommended Raja said to me, this is one of the "if you know than you know", this is the best Indian food in the area. I was not disappointed. Located inside the old wellington mall, it is an assuming place. We parked and entered through the outside entrance. Open and dimly light, we sat at a round table in the corner over looking the mall. Our server came over, she not overly friendly, but she was attentive and polite. She answered any questions we had honestly and openly. They placed a basket of crisp cumin seeded crackers with two sauces on the side (onion chutney sweet and savory, and mint sauce, which was robust with flavor) both excellent. We ordered Rosemary olive naan and garlic Naan with mango chutney. Both came out warm with a delicious yogurt sauce. We all preferred the garlic naan, though only because we are all tremendous garlic lovers. We also ordered keep samosas (Lamb and chickpea filled) and calamari. The samosas were some of the best I've ever had. Large and light, fried to a crisp, but creamy and chunky at the same time inside. The calamari were fresh and flavored. For our entrées we ordered butter chicken, chicken Tikka masala, chicken Tikka tandoori and a indo-chinese stir fry. One was better than the next, servings were large and all came with rice. What I really enjoyed is that every dish you were asked what spice level you would like from 1 to 6. We choose 3 and 4. Which gave us all our that slow burn filled with flavor. Reasonably priced and we took home left overs. We will be back...
