I waited a few days after the experience, and I still feel the same way so I thought I'd go ahead and write a review.
I used to live in Tallahassee (born, raised, family, etc...), and I have been a regular at Salty Dawg off and on for the last 15 years. We moved away in 2011 and just moved back home this past Friday, June 2014. We live just about a mile from Salty Dog and it was the first place we hit! Nothing like feeling at home after being away!!!
That is NOT what happened...
I walked in and (since we weren't staying long) I ordered 20 wings at the "to-go" register and then went in to meet some friends inside and have a beer while I waited. I got myself a Yuengling for $2 and tipped $1. Awesome!!! I just moved from the DC Metro area and beer starts at about $4 for the cheapest stuff they have at Happy Hour.
Then I walked over to the table my friends were sitting at and lifted my beer to have my first drink. They all started yelling at once, "Stop! Don't drink that. There is a crack in the mug". Then they said that I should go to the bar and request a new one. I walked up to the bar, told the lady what just happened and she informed me that it was only a crack and it wouldn't hurt me.
Ummm???? Wow!
I said that I would really like a new mug since it was cracked. She took the mug, POURED THE BEER INTO ANOTHER MUG, and handed it back to me. I stood there in shock for a few seconds and then came to my senses. I said, "I'd really just like a new beer, please". She said "NO". Then she took my beer, turned around, poured it out, handed me my $3 back and that was it.
What just happened?
I was in shock for another moment and then said, "So, can I order another beer"? She said no and asked me to leave. I had a wing order so I asked for a refund on that. She refunded that $20 order that was almost done cooking.
All my friends had seen what happened, they rescinded their most recent drink order and left! (My friends are awesome!!!) We all left, and went to Sid's. Sid was standing outside when we arrived and we told him what happened - he gave us all a round on the house to cheer us up from what happened with his nasty neighbor. What a guy!!!
I am terribly sad to say that I won't be going down to the local bar that has been one of my favorites for years. Instead, I'll be sticking to Sid's and Just One More.
As a last note I'd like to mention that after leaving a friend informed me that the woman who treated me that way was THE OWNER OF...
Read moreFive stars to you all! I've seen this place for years while going to the grocery store next to it, but I finally went in today. Let me say I regret never coming years ago. Very laid-back, good vibes atmosphere, they were very busy tonight kitchen was rocking with food coming in and out and they were on point. I love Hot Dogs and I was in the mood for chili cheese dog, I asked the bartender with dark long hair I don't know her name she didn't introduce herself did they have chili cheese hotdogs and she goes yeah in the winter. Her energies were kind of cold and straight to the point, she was pleasant but she could have been a little bit more pleasant/friendly perhaps she was tired or just too busy to be personable. Well back to the hot dogs I guess it's a South thing I'm from New York we have chili cheese dogs all year long , we eat hot dogs often like everyday. I decided to get the dog with coleslaw and cheese, and I end up getting two. I have had plenty of hot dogs in my life but never one like this!!!!!! That hot dog was so damn good I could have slapped somebody! I don't know what they put in their coleslaw but it was damn good! got the onion rings they were good just a little overcooked for me and I got some kind of pickle sauce I dipped in it and it was really good I thought it was weird when the bartender suggested it. But it was damn good kudos to the owner I'm guessing it was the mature lady that was out cleaning up the bar and directing staff she is so cute. I swear I want to help her I come from the restaurant business and God knows I wanted to just help that lady, she was the cook, cleaner upper, director, the fixer. She had two regulars and two trainees and it was a little bit tough tonight for them I think but they held it down and did their best I will definitely be back!! God bless that sweet lady...
Read moreOwner's awful attitude lost our business. Called in an order for pick-up for wings and fries - with two sides of blue cheese. At 620 pm. They said 20 minutes. We were across the street at Starbucks. Got there in 15 minutes. Hubby went to pick up window. Paid for everything- $40 - for 20 wings, one fry and two sides of dressing. He waited. And waited. 645 - order not ready. 655 order not ready. This is per their window person. I called at 710. Was put on hold for 4 minutes. This place is not that busy that they had to take that long to find an order. Hubby comes to the car with order at 714 as owner gets on the phone and starts yelling at me that he didn't get there until after 7. I watched him sitting by their window waiting. Owner lied, their customer service failed. Then owner started yelling at me because I was upset that our 20 minute order was almost an hour wait. We got cold fries, dried out wings and no sides of blue cheese that we paid for (typical of this place with to go orders). Owner is a friend of a hair stylist I know -but it don't matter - she got nasty with me for no reason. There are other places to go to in this town. I'm not going to keep spending money at a place that can't even do a simple to go order right....especially when...
