Sonny's BBQ — Restaurant in Florida

I'm visiting from out of town. My initial impression was this was a well designed and decorated location.I tried the sampler just to get a feel for everything.

The brisket is pretty good actually. Mild smoke ring and not overcooked small amount of firmness to it. Really good flavor overall.

Pork ribs were pretty good. Well cooked but not much bark on the outside. Had a good natural flavor to them.

They pulled pork was okay. I don't know that I would order it again but it's passable. Lacked flavor and was a little dry.

The chicken was very well done. Had a slight crispiness to the outside. Scale was a little on the firm side. They must not cook at a very high temperature to rend the skin all the way. It's good though. Good flavor, good texture, and all around my second favorite.

For my sides I got the barbecue beans and the mac and cheese. The BBQ beans were more towards chili than what I'm used to. If that's your thing they were pretty good but honestly I prefer some of the brown sugar beans that I get out in Texas. The mac and cheese was pretty good. Nothing to write home about but it was good. Finally they give you a slice of garlic bread which was standard issue good bread.

Overall I enjoyed my visit the waitress was attentive. The food was pretty good and they give you a good sized drink glass to start off with. Lot of points for that in my book when you're eating a lot of food. The waitress kept it full. Definitely worth trying if you're...

Stopped today on our way south, about another 2.5 hours to go. Have not had Sonny’s for over a year (ours closed near us in port Charlotte, boo), still awesome bbq. My wife and I enjoyed a great lunch break with the $10 special ( ribs, pulled or sliced pork plus 2 sides and cornbread). Great meal for $10!! Sides we had were tater tots, baked beans, coleslaw and dirty rice, all were very good. The meals arrived quickly and our waitress was efficient offering to go cups and or refills. Hard to drink a refill as the drinks are huge!

Upon leaving we were met again by the hostess who held the door for us and said have a great day! Big shout out to your hostess today. My wife got to talking with her saying we missed the potato salad, too bad it was gone. Well it wasn’t, we just missed it. She ran inside and brought out a little side dish of potato salad to go!!! What a nice thing to do and wished my wife happy Mother’s Day! What a way to treat your customers. We will stop now at this restaurant every time we drive by (and they are open). Can’t say enough about the fantastic service, made my wife’s day. Thank you

We ordered take out about 2 weeks ago and it was delicious. We decided to go to the restaurant on 484 and try it out. (Aug 3rd.) We were seated right away, and it was only a few minutes before the waitress came and took our order. We ordered 2 glasses of ice tea, and 2 pork three way dinner's. For our sides my husband chose Slaw and baked beans. I chose okra and green beans. I noticed that there was not many customers. We received the food after waiting 22 minutes. The sliced pork was delicious, but the ribs was dried out and tasted old. Pulled pork tasted ok but, wasn't as good as the take out food we had gotten two weeks ago. The okra came out in large fried clumps! It didn't look, or taste like the okra that we usually get. Green beans was good, and ice tea was too. Baked beans was good, but slaw was warm. There wasn't anyone seated around us which was nice. We were eating and trying to enjoy our dinner... They seated a couple in a booth behind my husband, and the Cologne the man had on was overwhelming! If it hadn't been for the fact that we were almost done we would have asked to be moved!! In conclusion service was good, but food needed a few improvements. This is why I am changing my rating from 4 to 3 Stars. I will go back again in the future to see if they...
