I write this review with a heavy heart, Tokyo Sushi used to be “our spot,” the place my husband and I would go on our first dates, the prices were fantastic - we both could get 1 standard and 1 specialty roll each for no more than $30. We recommended our friends eat there and even used to bring our friend who is in the military as a nice treat. To say the quality of the food has taken a decline is an understatement. The prices of the food do not match the quality anymore. The prices have doubled, specialty roll being $16+, veggie hibachi dinner being the cheapest hibachi dinner at $16/17 and steak being almost $30 a plate. Those prices can be standard but the quality of the food needs to match those prices. I wanted a side of crab and I was given 2 pieces of the imitation crab meat cut in half to look like 4 over chopped cucumber for $7! I could have bought 2 bags of imitation crab meat of a higher quality from Publix next store for that price. I know “why not just go elsewhere if you are so displeased?” It’s disheartening because we knew this place as “our spot” and to see what it has turned to which has led to the past few experiences to be highly disappointing, is difficult to see. I am not sure what changed or if new management took over but I really hope you take this review seriously. The staff has always been nice when I am there but the quality of the food has seriously… seriously gone downhill. I would rather pay $30 a person at another restaurant where the quality matches the prices. The memories will never fade but unless the food quality improves we will not be back.
I want to specify, the price of the food isn’t the issue, it’s that the prices increased (almost doubled) and the food quality lessened which made the experience unenjoyable. If I am paying $16 almost $17 for a roll of sushi, the quality...
Read moreI recently dined at Tokyo Sushi in Ocala, and it was an exceptional experience that deserves high praise. Located at 2785 NW 49th Ave, this gem offers an inviting atmosphere, outstanding service, and a menu that showcases the best of Japanese cuisine. From the moment I walked in, the staff greeted me warmly, creating a welcoming vibe that set the tone for the meal.
The menu is impressively diverse, catering to sushi lovers and those seeking other Japanese dishes. I started with the miso soup, which was perfectly balanced and comforting. For my main course, I ordered the Crazy Dragon roll and a shrimp bento box. The roll was a flavor explosion—fresh fish, creamy avocado, and a delightful mix of textures, beautifully presented. The bento box was equally impressive, with generous portions of succulent shrimp, steamed rice, gyoza, and a crisp house salad. The hibachi options looked tempting, and I overheard other diners raving about them.
What stood out was the attention to detail. The ingredients were fresh, the portions were substantial, and the prices were reasonable, especially for the quality. Our server was attentive, ensuring our drinks were refilled and checking in just enough to make us feel cared for without being intrusive. The restaurant was bustling, yet the staff managed the crowd with ease, a testament to their efficiency.
Tokyo Sushi is a must-visit in Ocala. Whether you’re a sushi aficionado or just craving a delicious meal, this place delivers. I’m already looking forward to my next visit to try more of their creative rolls and...
Read moreI ordered the Salmon poppers, key word salmon. There was none. They used to serve 6, no 4 which were tiny and over $10. They also used to serve it with a sauce, not any more. Took over ten minutes to get the waitress attention to ask about sauce. She said the only sauce they had was Yumyum sauces. I order The pink lady sushi roll and it was so cold like it came out of the freezer. Even worse it had absolutely no taste. The presentation was horrible Publix sushi does better. I asked if it was made fresh and she would not answer me. We used to eat here weekly after several year but due to a similar experience a years ago we didn’t return til today. Basics on attitude and horrible food won’t return. Then let’s talk about the curtains into the itching that a satined and just nasty. Guess that should have been on of the first clues. Also at lunch only 6 people seat. Used to be packed a...
