I wanted to celebrate a recent highlight in my life with my family. I decided I wanted Korean BBQ in the Brandon area. Once I arrived, I saw that they were closed for renovations. I was sad but looked in the area for similar restaurants. Tsunami was about the third restaurant on that list. I decided to take a chance and go. It was a chance well taken in a great experience.

The restaurant was cozy and a great way. we walked in and we're immediately seated. Within the first 2 minutes our drink orders were taken and we put in for appetizers. mango shrimp and gyoza. The shrimp was butterflied fried. Very light and crisp. I could not eat it because it may have had pineapple juice in it and I am allergic. Gyoza were good

standard gyoza. It was much more flavorful inside than what I can order at my local Chinese takeout.

There were four of us at the table and we ordered quite a few dishes. It was a celebration after all. lol.I ordered three rolls of sushi and the stir fried chicken udon. The table also had two orders of the Korean BBQ short ribs, the Salmon Hibachi plate, and the Roasted Duck Udon Soup. I'll give a short review of all.

Sushi - Fresh, flavorful and high quality ingredients used Sir Fried Chicken Udon- Buddha was cooked perfectly. had a slight chew but not overly chewy. chicken and vegetables were plump and perfectly seasoned Korean BBQ short ribs- There was a reason we had two orders. They were that good. Salmon Hibachi plate- Flaky at Juicy fish. The surprise of this dish was definitely the fried rice. next time I visit I will get a full order of fried rice by itself. you should too Roasted Duck Entree- Crispy flavorful duck over a deeply Rich broth and crisp vegetables perfect. Roasted Duck Udon Soup- Crispy flavorful duck over a deeply Rich broth and crisp vegetables perfect.

Service was swift and consistent. I will be going back very soon. If it’s your first time there, try the fried rice, ribs, duck, or a sushi...

This place has become a weekly (sometimes more than once a week) staple for us. The few opportunities to dine in are always more enjoyable however the food is incredibly consistent and wonderful no matter whether it's picked up, delivered or eaten there.

We normally order via UberEats however their sushi pricing, although expensive b/c everything on UE is, is on par or slightly cheaper than their competitors but the quality is always excellent.

Recommendations:

  1. Tuna Pizza (not even on restaurant menu but absolutely fantastic) - Grilled soft tortilla, avocado, lean tuna with spicy mayo and eel sauce.
  2. Tuna Tataki - warning: spicy If you like spicy and good tuna, this is the item for you. It's good thinly sliced very lightly seared tuna paired with a chili oil, sesame and soy (guessing by flavor) sauce and shredded jicama. My wife likes spicy mayo with it.
  3. Clear soup - this is the money item! If you like the onion soup at the Benihana/Kobe's style places, you'll LOVE theirs. This is honestly one of the main reasons we started ordering regularly from them.
  4. Sushi Rolls - Cloud 9 and Tuna Lollipop are two excellent rolls that I've not found many other places to have anything similar. Honestly, we've never had a bad roll from this place so select with confidence.

The other reason I'm leaving all 5 stars is the way they handled the one time I had an issue with an order (we've eaten Tsunami probably 50x in the past year). I called, the manager recognized our order and told us to ask for her the next time we ordered. She made the issue right (free 'remake' at our subsequent visit) with 2 of the best Tuna Tataki's we've ever had!

Bonus: We took my nephew (4yo) and their kids teriyaki chicken was a VERY generous portion for $8 or $9 and I tasted it and it had GREAT flavor. I usually don't like teriyaki at...

I have actually been going here off and on for yrs but in the last few months it has become a regular Friday thing. Unfortunately it's always been take out so I can't speak to the table service but the interior seems to be a nice mid-sized room. The cashiers who take my order are always very friendly as I have become something of a regular. The one greeter who I believe is a manager is always super friendly and will give descriptions on different kinds of sushi rolls (I stick to the rolls but wouldn't mind trying the Hibachi one day) and what sushi dishes she’s had and recommends.

As to the rolls, they are excellent. Under the standard (cheaper rolls) I prefer, the Chicken Tasuage- basically a fried chicken roll, shrimp tempura roll, fire cracker roll and rainbow roll but the standard salmon and tuna rolls are good too. I have been slowly working my way down the menu of the Specialty rolls. It’s a bit pricey but good sushi is pricey. So far my favs are:

The Yummy and Sumo roll (they are basically the same, just that the Yummy is tuna and the Sumo is salmon). The Cloud 9 is very good, it has a lettuce in the middle that kind of makes me think I bit into a sushi salad. The Lollipop roll is refreshing. It would be a nice appetizer but a bit over priced for a light treat. The Pumpkin Pumpkin roll is excellent and huge but it comes with scallops so $$$ The Spider roll has great crab flavor and The Grenade roll is very filling and comes hot

I’m not a fan of cream cheese in my sushi so I stay away from about 1/3 of the rolls on the menu that have it. Overall I like this place because it’s good food and the take out service is good. The prices are comparable to most Japanese...

Been eating here for years. Food is always awesome and fresh. Service is wonderful. Could not ask for a better place. Also, great to throw a birthday party.

Superior place for sushi and other Japanese favorites. We started with steamed dumplings (not in the menu but available if you ask) and Crab Rangoon. Both were incredibly tasty and easy to devour. We are out meal family style, all the in the middle and shared among 3. We followed the appetizers with 3 sushi, California roll, Mexican roll, and shrimp typanyaki roll. All three were some of the best sushi we've had in Tampa. Lastly we shared steak and shrimp hibachi, and a chicken yaki udon noodle. Everything was eaten completely and we were all stuffed. Bathrooms were clean, staff was friendly, prompt, and courteous. We will be going back for further visits. Highly recommend if you get the chance.
