Its Paula Deens, it is supposed to be great. It's just not. It's really good. I always enjoy it. My wife isn't as much a fan but her palate is really picky so too much flavor is a thing for her. I don't want you to think the food is not good because if you can't find something you enjoyed on this menu you really must not like southern food. That said we have eaten at other Paula Deen restaurants and they were better. I don't really know why, maybe we remember them as better but now we have had better and it shows. So let's give you the rundown. Entrees - Fried chicken, was not bad. Your kid likes fried chicken? They are gonna be happy, but it ain't my grandma's and when I think Paula Deen I think of the church lady cooking chicken but there is better chicken on the table so I would probably skip over it for my grandmas. Chicken and dumplings, these are good. A little heavily seasoned for my wife but not for me. Think chicken pot pie almost. It has carrots and celery in the broth and I can appreciate that. Catfish, yeah I'm gonna compare this to the fried chicken. It was good. Just not the best. In the mood for fish, you ain't gonna be disappointed. Looking for the best catfish you ever had in your life? Yeah head down by the river to one of those cafes cause this ain't it. Pork chops, this are good. Really good. Just not great. My grandma made better, so do I. Yeah I went there. As an option though I would have to say these are part of my top 3. Ribs, well we ain't tried them. Nothing against them but chicken, ribs, catfish, and chops are really southern and I really expect perfection with ribs so this would really disappoint me if they weren't great. If you tried them let me know in case I have been missing out. Sides This is where Paula shines, we have tried almost every side over the last few years and they were all delicious. My favorite is probably the broccoli casserole. My son loved the mac and cheese. The mashed potatoes would throw Gordon Ramsay into a rant because they are lumpy but hey this is the south and we take our lumps here and like them. Peach cobbler.... um no. Paula I think they messed up your recipe cause something is wrong. Same with the banana pudding. When they take your plate away and ask about dessert stick to the chocolate cake, that's what you...
Read moreEverything we ordered was extremely salty. Okra, collard greens, pot roast, fried chicken, catfish and cream potatoes. I couldn't even finish the food. We told the server it was too salty but all she said was, well everything has butter in it. I said, to cook with butter is one thing but to put too much salt and butter is another thing! She offered us to try something else on the menu, but there was nothing else to try because they have a very limited menu! I was extremely disappointed because everthing smelled and looked so good. The pot roast came with white buttery rice. I asked if they could leave out the butter on the rice but she said it is cooked with butter so she didnt think so. It was salty and too buttery. As I was eating it I didn't want to tell my husband that it was too salty and too buttery because we drove over an hour and a 1/2 to eat at this restaurant and my husband was very excited to bring me there. Then when the server came back and saw we didn't really eat everything she asked if we still wanted dessert. Again, they have very limited choices so my husband got the buttery ooey, gooey, chocolate cake. I said, none for me thank you, I'll let him get one and I'll taste it. Well, all he took was one bite and could hardly finish swallowing that one bite! And trust and believe when I tell you, my husband loves sweets! He said it tasted like a stick of butter with chocolate flavor on it. It looked like a half baked brownie to me so I tasted it, and he was right! It was way under baked and had way too much butter in it. Now I understood why us two and a family were the only ones in there! What a waste of our money, our time, and our gas!!! How that restaurant is still open, is a wonder to me. I won't ever go back or even recommend...
Read moreMy husband and I were very excited to try Paula Dean's. We checked out the menu the day before and read lots of reviews. When we arrived, there was quite a crowd waiting, but it only took about 20 minutes to be seated. Our server, Lydia, explained that we would pay per person depending on how many entrees we choose and it would come with 4 sides to share, as well as dessert. You get unlimited refills of the entrees and sides! I had blueberry lemonade to drink and it was very good. The fresh buttered bread was tasty as well. We ordered pot roast, chicken and dumplings, mac and cheese, okra, creamed corn and creamed potatoes. The pot roast was tender and flavorful and came with buttered rice. The dumplings were a little gummy, but the broth was delicious. The creamed potatoes were very creamy and the creamed corn was our favorite side. The mac and cheese was very disappointing. It looked creamy and cheesy, but it was very bland. We had to wait about 15-20 minutes before our server came around again. She hadn't checked on us since our food was delivered. My husband had been out of tea for a while. We asked for some refills of the entrees and corn and it came out pretty quickly. When we finished eating, we ordered our desserts to go. The ooey gooey butter cake was out of this world! The peach cobbler was a huge let down. It was a small chunk of bread with one peach and some juice. All in all, the meal was good, but it wasn't as good as I was expecting. I'm glad we tried it, but we probably...
