Yes, there are options other than deep fried at Shrimp Basket. Our extended family loves coming here on every year, and it has good food. The fried food is alright, but I always regret it afterward. The batter does not have much flavor, so the the fried pickles give the flavor a bit more kick. The po boys, gumbo, and potato salad are good, but the corn nuggets and beans and rice bowls are the best. If you’re going to eat something fried here, the corn nuggets are where it’s at. They’re a bit stingy with them though. So if someone else in your crew offers theirs up, be the quickest on the draw. This time I had the blackened mahi mahi tacos and substituted loaded potato salad for French fries. It was good, but my personal favorite is still the beans and rice bowl.
Update 7/6/21 Firecracker Fries are where it’s at! New on the menu since last year. Ordered these as an appetizer. They were so good we ended up getting another order as an entree. The crab cakes weren’t overly crabby tasting, which is a plus in my book. The sauce they come with makes them even better. Looking for a consumable souvenir, rather than more junk no one uses/wants? They have bottles of hot sauce with more of a smoky flavor to them. Yes. Thank you. I’ll take one of...
Read moreWe often go to the Gulf Shores location. Tonight we had family in town and the Foley location was closer. Absolutely awful service start to finish. I don’t know what was worse the cold appetizers coming out after our food or the rude server who first took drink orders for 2 of the 4 of us out of our party of 10 when we first arrived totally ignoring the other 2 people at the table as we waited on the 8 to arrive and telling us we were rude for asking for drinks? Um ok? Or the fact that as the rest of our party who came in to join us overheard her and what seemed to be a manager as she told her that we were supposedly being rude as they walked in. Side note, we were never rude in any way to this server. Not once! A couple of us ordered all you can eat meals, but never had the opportunity to order refills of anything. Then we sat for about 30 extra minutes after our meal when she charged everyone’s meals to the wrong cards, some multiple times. I went up to talk to again what seemed to be the manager who was rude to me and told me she had it handled and made some excuses about how bad that location is and it wasn’t her typical store. Yet still had our cards another 15 minutes trying to fix the bills...
Read moreI'm giving 4 stars for a few reasons. We came because of the google reviews. Monday night, we arrived at 8:30 PM. It was not overcrowded. Many empty tables were not ready, full of dirty dishes. They urgently need helpers. Our waitress was fantastic he really enjoyed talking to our kiddos and making suggestions. I was sure his tip matched that great attitude. Let me tell you that almost $12 for a cheese dip is really overpriced. The just made chips was a little over burned. The cheese dip was small size, and they named "seafood" on it when was just a few mini shrimp. So save your money and skip that from the menu. We tried the onion strips as well and were nothing special, a little over burned too. It was probably because it was the end of the day, but we could save more of $20 bucks on appetizers. Now, the shrimp baskets and the dozen oysters were worth the wait and the bad starters. I tried the seafood basket and was really good and plenty of food: shrimp, oysters, catfish, crab cake and fries, So probably we'll give a second chance. Many thanks to our server. He makes everything...
