A&W Restaurant — Restaurant in Fond du Lac

I decided to try this place because it was the closest location near me, and with such high reviews (4.6 rating), I had pretty high expectations. Unfortunately, my experience was the complete opposite.

I arrived around 9:50 p.m. (online hours listed closing as 10:30 p.m.) and placed my order for a bacon burger with no onions—repeated that twice since it was a bit difficult to hear. Shortly after, a young lady brought my order out while the lights suddenly started going out. I made a comment about it, and she replied, “Yeah, a lot of people want to come here when it’s closing time.” At this point, I was confused since I believed closing was 10:30, not 10.

When it came time to pay, she told me the total was $14.08. I handed her $20.10 and said I wanted my change back. Instead of the correct change, she gave me only $4, then ran off with a friend to a car and left. Dumbfounded, I went to the window to explain the situation, only to be met by an older gentleman with white hair who loudly said they were closed. When I told him what happened, he tossed $2.02 at me, slammed the window, and locked it.

The entire experience was unprofessional, rude, and left me completely shocked. If the owner or manager happens to read this, I truly hope you address how your staff is treating paying customers. With how this visit went, I cannot understand how this place holds a 4.6-star rating. Oh and I still had onions on...

7-18-21 Lunch staff. This review will be lengthy, but hopefully the entire staff will get a chance to read. Been coming to this location for many years. On this visit we ordered a bacon cheese burger, papa burger, cheese curds and rootbeer. A typical visit. Food was delivered fast, hot, and delicious like usual. The staff, well theres alot to be said about them. Not sure if I've seen anything like this for some time. Every one was busting thier hump getting orders out. I didn't see one staff member on their cell phone for the entire visit, and we didn't rush. The wait staff was polite and greeted everyone with a smile. It is soo refreshing to see young people working hard. This place has a great group working there, they need to know that. Some A&W's have remodeled,  going with the drive through style. Please do not do this. A&W is an iconic establishment. We need to keep places like this alive. Places where staff interact with customers. Places that promote values.  Keep up...

269 Winnebago drive Fond du lac. I have been coming here for countless years because of the nostalgic feel, and this restaurant has survived for decades when others have come and gone. That says something about the character and personality of the place. That being said, this new batch of young girls are inadequately trained. They make the restaurant unsanitary. They hand your ice cream cone to you without a paper liner on it like McDonald’s has. All these girls go through the same door that they ALL touch. Hand out paper money that has been handled by how many different people ? over and over and then passing whatever onto YOU by giving you the cone. It was supposed to be a nice family outing. Instead I had to throw away my cone. I am headed towards 60 and with COVID looming in the background. I don’t need some young ignorant teenager with in adequate food preparation skills...
