Attended an Easter brunch at The Cellar District. Concerns were brought forth regarding the inappropriate bill and unknowingly serving myself, my husband, and teenage daughter orange juice with alcohol. More details immediately were discussed with our server and Management on site that day, with an assurance we would receive follow up (and some type of solution to make the situation right) by early in the week. After messaging the business and still not receiving contact late in the week as promised (ample time and opportunity to allow the business to mitigate serious concerns and a very poor customer experience), honest reviews were provided on social media.
I later received a social media response from management about how wonderful they are and their disappointment regarding the negative review (still no solution to the initial concerns brought forth), followed by immediately blocking myself and anyone that reposted the honest review. They so easily could have addressed the concerns professionally immediately or early in the week as promised. Successful businesses and those I choose to support will take feedback as a learning experience, acknowledge when they make a mistake, and mitigate to improve the customer experience. I will always consider returning when this happens. Instead their response (or lack of) speaks volumes and likely lost them hundreds of customers.
If they treat customers this way, I cannot imagine how they treat employees and subsequently how the work environment is affected (a big piece of our initial complaint). Consider the type of environment you want to support with your time and well earned money, and if you decide to provide this to The Cellar District, I hope that you are only 100% satisfied with your experience. If you’re not satisfied or bring forth any concerns, be prepared for their feelings to be hurt instead of taking the opportunity to make the situation right for their customer.
Such a surprising and disappointing experience for our family that loves to travel and enjoy our food experiences. I will gladly support more businesses that prioritize their customers, The Cellar District just isn’t...
Read moreWas super disappointed with the food here. You really pay for the atmosphere which is great. Its a beautiful church with high ceilings, cozy booths an ideal place to have a nice meal. It is really breath taking which is why this review is so hard to write, I had high hopes but we started with calamari and it was rubbery and tasted like it was frozen before with no seasoning on it.. it was recommended but was some of the worst I ever had, our table was shocked. My husband got the burger which was over cooked and he couldnt even finish half, the fries however were undercooked and soggy needing just a little more time in the fryer to be crispy. I got the Mongolian beef over rice which the steak was too hard and chewy and rubbery, tasted like meat from a frozen tv dinner. We packed up our food to go and didn't complain. Our bill for 1 app and 3 meals was $90 and I tipped 18% on top but will never return for the food it was not even worth half that price. This used to be a nice spot but the new owners have a far reach for their food titles, one thing that was completely labeled wrong was the banh mi tuna. Growing up around many Vietnamese anyone would tell you what a banh mi is. Banh mi is a Vietnamese sanwich with meat, pate or not, on a French baguette, Vietnamese mayo, cucumber, cilantro, fresh herbs and pickled radish and carrot. They had a tuna hoagie with Kim chi slaw (korean) labeled as banh mi. As well as serving other Korean dishes like bulgogi over rice they had no chopsticks to eat with. Being from SF when eating Asian food chopsticks is necessary. Overall poor food experience but good atmosphere and good service. Clean restrooms and nice looking bar. A little bit more culinary experience and knowledge into different Asian cuisines would benefit the person making the menu. Sadly as beautiful as the location I do...
Read moreWe stopped here after a LONG day of driving and hiking with big appetites and the desire for a strong drink. The Cellar District is inside a repurposed church and it is spectacular (amazing, cool, chose your superlative). I don't have an eye for design, but the interior design here is top notch. Many of the classic architecture was either repurposed or recreated to turn this into a restaurant. The bar especially, it looks like it belongs in a church with plenty of ornate wood and wrought iron. So cool!
Seating was plentiful, and service was quick enough. It was a busy time, and they might have been short a server or two but everyone was hustling.
The good: Lots of fresh menu items. The truffle cheese curds were probably the best I've ever had. The peanut coleslaw bed beneath the ahi tuna was equally amazing. The coconut crusted sea bass was huge and largely delicious, although the coconut didn't stand out.
The less good: Drinks were weak in both spirits and flavor. I'd skip the cocktails and go with beer if I were to come back.
The bad: The first attempt at the sea bass was way way way undercooked. Raw in the middle, but immediately addressed by our server. Also two stalls in the women's bathroom isn't sufficient during the busy time (restaurant capacity is huge) and there was often a line.
Definitely disappointing lows, as this was an amazing location, with amazing food options, amazing service, VERY reasonable prices, and amazing (although inconsistent) quality. If we were local we'd definitely be back to try more on the menu.
Despite some of the misses, we really enjoyed our visit and we would recommend this to nearly anyone (with a...
