First time there for the New year day buffet and was disappointed. Let our server know that 1 person was going to order from the menu and she said to let her know when they were ready, closed menus and she never came, we had to track her down to order. Waited on refills, silverware, menus left crowding table. The bar was busy and I noticed some maybe friends or family in the dinning room (our half was totally empty)that the staff spent a lot of time with. Kids behind the bar. It seemed like I was imposing on a family event rather than at a public restaurant. Fruit on the buffet was not iced, so I didn't risk having any. No places to set the spoons outside of the hot serving pans so the handles were dropping in the food, no signs or lables on any item, salmon was not covered. Like I said. It gave more pot luck vibes than $20 buffet. Right before giving me the check the server let me know that 20% gratuity was already added because of the buffet. That wasn't listed in any ads or signage so I was kind of surprised especially after everything I seen that they expected 20% i was thinking more around 15%. That's when I noticed there's another charge for 4.5% if I choose to pay with a card. So that's 24.5% they are expecting on top of the overpriced buffet. I also didn't see steak and egg sandwiches they advertised, I could have over looked them. In the end I did bring it up the gratuity thing and they did allow me change the tip to what I wanted but she was clearly not happy that i said something. The food tasted great but due to service and the nearly 25% extra 'demanded' charges I won't be back. If you want 20% then earn it, especially at a self serve buffet imagine china king telling u they added 25%.... and china king has more options...
Read moreWe live in Fondy, literally a block away. We went there last year and had some Burgers for the first time. The Burgers were phenomenal! So, after dealing with this Flood we thought we would take the Family out for Supper tonight so my Wife didn’t have to cook and we could enjoy a night out eating. Unfortunately, the Service was very slow. I ordered the Old Number 7 with Shrimp and extra Veggies....It was poor at best. I actually sent my plate back. The Waitress did ask if I wanted anything else and I declined. My Wife had the Magic and the Bun was soggy. She sucked it up and didn’t complain. They were nice enough to not charge me for my meal. So, I decided to have the Cookie Dough Cheesecake as a dessert....who the hell puts Cookie Dough Cheesecake on Paper???? I had to dump it upside down so I could eat it on a plate as you couldn’t cut through the Cookies on paper, although it was good. I don’t think I’ll ever take my Family out for Supper there again. They do have good Burgers, maybe they should stick to that. Then again, there’s lots of places with good Burgers, and a lot cheaper....
Read moreExcellent -- both the appetizers ( two of which I had on my last visit, along with Chicken Cordon Bleu soup ) as well as the meals.
Aside from the aforementioned soup, I also had Breaded Meatloaf Bites ( yes, you read that correctly ! ) and Sweet Potato Fries. Meatloaf is one of those things that both my wife and my mom make WONDERFULLY, so getting it at a restaurant is sometimes a let-down because it never quite lives up to what I can get home-made. I'm glad to report that this instance was an exception. These things were QUITE good...and the three dipping sauces that came along with them were quite tasty, too. The fries were nicely seasoned, slightly sweet and lightly crunchy, which is pretty much just how I like them. The waitress was very pleasant, didn't hover and came back to the table with appropriate regularity.
I never turn down a chance to go to this place...and the meal I just described above pretty much explains why. ...
