My husband and I decided to get take out. We had heard many good things about this restaurant so we decided to try it out. I ordered a Ribeye with salad and baked potato. He opted for a burger.
If you order a salad you are at the mercy of whomever is manning the salad bar. First I didn’t know that my salad was from a salad bar and that being the case they should ask you what you want on it or make it generic. Mine had black olives, green peppers, eggs, beets, tomatoes and a smidge of lettuce thrown in for good measure. I just wanted a generic salad. The Ribeye was the worst piece of steak I have ever had. It looked like it had been run over by a truck. It was so grisly and tough most of it went to our dog. The baked potato was ok small but tasty until I found out my husband was charged .95 cents for a small tube ( maybe 2 tsp) of the sour cream. That is a staple for a baked potato but obviously they need to get every penny from you. Last I didn’t realize I got Texas toast. I was so excited until I took a bite. It was greasy and the edges were hard. We only live about a mile away so there was no excuse. My husbands burger was a bit over done but he said it was acceptable.
The steak cost 23.95. The Ribeye was about a 1/4 inch high. I’m not sure if the person cooking or buying the steaks has actually seen what a ribeye looks or tastes like. I guess I will stick to my favorite steakhouse because all my high hopes for a great steak were dashed as my husband sawed it up for the dog. Glad someone enjoyed their dinner.
Good idea for a restaurant just not good...
Read moreI grew up on the Best Steakhouse locations in St. Paul on White Bear Avenue and University Avenue, so I was really excited to have a location in the area. This location is not like those other locations. This place pales in comparison and I'd drive to St Paul before coming back here.
They have you tip at the counter when placing your order via an iPad or a tip jar. You are given a number and beverage cups and a tray and you select your own table. A little bit later the meals come of the kitchen and are delivered to your table.
The steak was mediocre. Thin and full of gristle. It was cooked to the right temperature. They were out of two steak cuts that we wanted to try. My partner had the chicken stir fry, which was bland and somehow watery. The fries that came with my steak were tasty. The salad bar is meager and was not stocked. The Texas toast was the thinnest Texas toast I've ever seen.
For the same price, better food, and better service, you could go to the Blue heron grill in Hugo, Norman quacks, or grillium just down the street.
They are new so I hope they will improve. This was disappointing.
The atmosphere is a little grubby and not a place where you necessarily want to relax and enjoy your meal. It's a casual place with no frills, and certainly not a place for value.
We left our tip on the table.
They have one bathroom in the back (near the back entrance that leads to the parking lot).
Plenty of parking in a lot out back that is shared with neighboring businesses. Parking on the...
Read moreMy husband and I just went to have dinner at the Best Steak House for dinner. We have been wanting to go for a while to see if it really does live up to being the best steak. To be fair, it really is the best steak (at least in the area)! We both ordered ribeye and chicken wild rice soup, but I ordered the salad bar and my husband wanted their jojo potatoes. First off, their soup was simple but really flavorful. I tried my husband’s jojo potatoes and we both thought that those tasted great too. The salad bar was really nice. It’s not huge but the fact that they have one and all the veggies looked fresh is what makes it. Their blue cheese dressing also appeared and tasted homemade (note: my husband does not like blue cheese, and when he tasted my salad, HE even liked it). They had buttered Texas toast that went along with the dinner (amazing), and the ribeyes were cooked perfectly. They were both very tender and juicy!
It wasn’t just the food that was great either, the staff was very kind and personable too! It seemed to be very slow, and from our experience here tonight, it is hard to understand why. Perhaps it is the environment of the restaurant? It is very similar to Farmington Steakhouse if you have ever been there. Not strange at all, but not the usual vibe for steak houses if you’re used to a “fine dining experience” or something busy like Texas Roadhouse.
In short, if you are looking for a place that has BOTH amazing steak and staff, I recommend going to Best...
