Want great food served by a family owned business? Want to experience a small town eatery amongst a city that’s exploding with growth? Then Stash’s Table and Fable might just be for you. Located in downtown Forney Texas in what almost resembles a small town’s town square you get the vibe that every business on this square is owned and operated by friendly people. My wife and I decided we needed to see what this place was about. Being transplants from Chicago we didn’t know what to expect. I tell you what, the husband and wife that run this place put their heart and soul into every bite. We tried the street tacos, the smokehouse burger and the white chocolate bacon bread pudding. The street tacos are made of pulled pork, served with creamy salsa verde, cilantro, onion and cotija cheese. The tacos had an enjoyably pleasing flavor. The pork was seasoned well. Our only observation was that the meat was slightly dry, but still very flavorful. The only way I see this dish getting any better than it already was, is to create the salsa verde with differing heat levels. Maybe give the customer a choice of mild, medium or spicy. Next up the smokehouse burger. The burger comes with a 1/3 lb beef patty, pulled pork, cheddar cheese, crispy onions and bbq sauce. I’ve had this exact burger in at least 5 different establishments since moving to Texas and what can I say? The flavor profiles work well together, but this establishment….they go above and beyond. Never before have I seen a restaurant brand their hamburger buns in the same fashion as a herd of cattle gets branded. Their mark is seared into the top of the bun. This was quite the touch and created conversation for my wife and I. On to the star of this show. The white chocolate bacon bread pudding will definitely have my wife and I going back. This is unlike any other bread pudding. This bread pudding almost tasted like it was deep fried. There was plenty of flavor with the hints of white chocolate, and who doesn’t love bacon? This concoction was swimming in a delightfully sweet caramel sauce. The portion size is perfect for sharing….but who am I kidding? If my wife had not been there to help me, I would have devoured the whole thing myself. Total cost for our meal before tip was $37.83 and included a cup of coffee and a coke. Not cheap, but given the love that was put into this food, I can accept the cost. Will I be back? Most definitely….as soon as I get done trying all the other great dining establishments in town. I give Stash’s Table and Fable my overall personal score of a 4.66 out of 5. Stop in and give this...
Read moreMy husband and I and our two young children recently visited Stash's Table and Fable for the first time. It was great to be able to read with the kids while we waited for our food, and I love the "take a book / leave a book" library model.
We ordered the Smokehouse burger and pulled pork sandwich, which were absolutely delicious. The meat was great, but we also noted the quality of the bread – it was perfectly toasted and didn't get soggy at all. Love the branding burned into the bun; nice touch.
Many reviewers rave about the white chocolate bacon bread pudding (for good reason; it's amazing), but don't sleep on the tiramisu! It's light and flavorful, and I like that it's served in a to-go cup with a lid. Easy to eat and easy to take with you.
The kids' grilled cheese sandwich was simple and perfect for my preschooler who's going through a picky-eating phase. He actually wanted to go back again the next day, citing "allllllll the yummy food" (he loved the tiramisu) and the books. High praise indeed.
Service was impeccable, and the clean bathroom was a great sign that this establishment pays attention to detail.
In the interest of providing a critique, a few tiny changes could make a GREAT place even better:
There's a typo in the little sign on the table for the library: "If you would like to take a book, please leave one in it's place." There should be no apostrophe in the word "its."
The plastic forks were a little flimsy when it came to handling the bread pudding. The dessert is so dense and rich and it has crispy, caramelized edges that were difficult to cut through with a thin plastic fork. I wonder if it might be possible to get thicker plastic forks with tines that don't bend as easily.
It would've been nice to have a few slices of housemade pickle served on the side with my Smokehouse burger! I didn't get to try any but would've loved to.
Overall, this place was a gem. Keep...
Read moreMy wife and I paid a visit to this restaurant and were very pleased. Let me start with the "Smokehouse burger". It arrived with chips and was a perfectly cooked beef patty. The bun was also top notch, and the restaurant named branding was a nice touch. This burger is a perfectly balanced masterpiece with top quality beef, perfectly smoked pulled pork, caramelized onions and tasty BBQ sauce. I can't overstate how much I enjoyed this burger from start to the last bite. Even the chips were on par with the best I've ever had. My wife had the "Charcuterie salad" which was an explosion of flavored goodness. We also tried the "Crispy Brussels Sprouts" which AGAIN these guys hit out of the park! They are sweet and tangy, with an almost Asian flare. Lastly, Robert the owner asked if I would like to order dessert, to which I declined. To our surprise, he showed up at our table with an order of their "White Chocolate Bacon Bread Pudding". After the first bite I realized what a big mistake I had made in declining this heavenly creation. All I can say is DO NOT leave without trying this menu item. Some suggestions I have to make the dining experience on par with the excellent cuisine:
Re-think your dining setup as it could be more inviting for guests that want to dine in.
Add a side of some of those pickles to your burger orders. This would not only add to the meal, but would help promote sails of your Jarred offerings.
Include more salad dressing with your salads
In conclusion, I hope this place does well and sticks around for a long time. Otherwise I will need to chase their food truck around to get my Smokehouse burger fix. Good luck and I look forward to bringing in the whole...
