Had breakfast with the family here yesterday. Ive never eaten here but I've lived here for 15 years. Its nice and bright inside. I like all the paintings and the bathrooms are clean. The service is nice, the servers always had a smile on. The food was not the best though. I probably won't be coming back, I was not impressed at all. Not everybody enjoyed what they got. I appreciate that this is a local more homemade restaurant but certain things had me second guessing. I got a pork breakfast burrito that came with cheese and eggs with green chili sauce on the side. It was so bland and boring... The pork was dry, there was hardly any cheese, and the eggs seemed really bad quality like they were dull and fake (they weren't, its probably because they used those gross factory raised white eggs). The green chili sauce was the only thing keeping me from not wasting that meal. Even the sauce was sort of boring too though. So i would never recommend getting their pork or any of the other ingredients. My mom had a spinach quiche but low and behold its just microwaved. It was obvious. If it was homemade, you would be able to tell (one hint is the crust). My sister had the chicken fried steak which she didnt finish because it was too thin and dry. Apparently at Vern's, you get them thicker. Her husband got a breakfast burrito smothered in the green chili sauce but he didnt say anything so he wasnt impressed either. My aunt and cousin seemed fine with their dishes, they are not very picky. I ordered a cinnamon roll and my aunt ordered a waffle for us all to pick at. The cinnamon roll was okay but I've had way better. The waffle was better then the cinnamon roll once you put the butter and syrup on it. So overall, not good enough to come again. I really didn't appreciate the quality when this is supposed to be local...
Read moreI’m so sad, this was a pretty decent restaurant until now. Denied of alcoholic beverages simply because my east coast license says “not for real ID purposes.” For those who don’t know, this is still a legitimate ID given out by, who would’ve thought, the DMV; the only difference is getting into a federal building with a “real ID.” Instead of scanning it our waitress said “we don’t have a scanner, we just got popped serving a minor, we can’t risk it again.” Very nice, you got caught to an underage person and you don’t even have a scanner. She proceeded to say “this is Colorado and we don’t accept that,” well yeah it’s Colorado, I’ve lived here long enough where it has been “accepted” by every bank, job, and background check I’ve endured here. Here’s a legitimate quote from the department of motor vehicles from my issued licensed state. “ The Real ID Act, passed by congress in 2005, enacted the 9/11 commissions recommendation that the federal government 'set standards for the issuance of sources of identification, such as driver's licenses.' The act also prohibits federal agencies from accepting for certain purposes drivers licenses and identification cards from states not meeting the act`s minimum standards. So that means a Real ID is required to gain access to a federal building or a military base.” All in all I don’t really care in the end though, the Back Porch comes last in the long line of FoCo’s...
Read moreNot what I expected from an establishment I have often frequented and recommended many times before. I decided to stop in after a late morning bike ride for a quick/small snack of sorts just after 11 am. Didn't want anything too heavy or sweet, and settled on a side salad ($4) and side of chips ($2). What I received was definitely not worth what I paid. The side salad - a decent sized portion - did not appear to be freshly prepared but rather from a bag I may have purchased at a local grocery store. My impression was that it had probably sat in the refrigerator too long because the lettuce had wilted and had the tell-tale pink streaks and edges. I ate the croutons and cucumbers (additions to what I believe to be an old tossed salad), and about half of the rest. Because my bill was so small, I chose not to make a big deal about it and instead alerted the waitperson after I had paid and tipped so as to be sure the restaurant received some feedback about the quality of its product. I also did not want to come off as "that customer" - the one who looks for the slightest imperfections to have his/her bill comped. So why write a review at all you might ask? Because after I had left, I felt that I and future patrons deserve better than what I received today - an unsatisfactory, overly priced, low quality product. I expect an establishment like this to do better and be better regardless of what they serve, to...
