Branché Café — Restaurant in Fort Lee

I was excited to visit Fort Lee and see Branché Café. I think that the venue has a lot of potential to serve as a neighborhood café and third space. Unfortunately, despite the high quality of the pastries, I do not feel comfortable rating this place higher than two stars.

The cafe's restrooms did not have any soap in them. I have informed the staff upon arrival, but when I left an hour later, there was still no soap. I do not know whether the staff is using this restroom or another restroom, but I am concerned about the level of hygiene in a café that does not provide soap.

Furthermore, the service was pretty bad. We received a small orange juice instead of a large lemonade, a salmon sandwich which we did not order at all, and the salmon omelet was missing salmon (which I only noticed when I completely dissected it). Empty plates were left on our table until we asked the waitress to take them. Wait time was surprisingly long for such a small place.

Based on drinks, pastry/food, cleanliness, service, and atmosphere, I would give Branché an overall rating of 8.5-9 out of 10. I appreciated their innovativeness with the drinks, which I don’t often see in other cafes in the area. They came out with new lattes - the blueberry and pistachio being my favorites(I was doubtful about the taste but was pleasantly surprised). Though I haven’t tasted a variety of the food & pastries myself, my friends mentioned enjoying the Nutella croissant as well as the chocolate cakes. The atmosphere is great for studying, small get-togethers, and dates. Because the location is a bit isolated from the main part of the town, it’s perfect for getting away from the crowd and still enjoy a cup of coffee:) The staff is very sweet, and unlike most cafes here, they set and serve your choices of pastries on a cute wooden board (and cute glasses and decorative piece for drinks). 10/10 for attention to detail&aesthetic. I talked to some of the staff and they said they are in the works testing out more drinks- so I will be back...

Yesterday afternoon I went to eat a lemon creme, and they gave me the last one they had! I am a huge fan of this dessert… but unfortunately for me, the dessert wasn’t fresh from the day before, it didn’t taste fresh, it seemed like it was from the day before or even more :( How bad, I shouldn’t have eaten it all and should have complained, but my craving for this dessert got the better of me, and I had a terrible afternoon with horrible heartburn!
