While going to and from the airport recently, the Fort Mitchell Public House has often been on our agenda for a meal. Their convenient location is just off of the interstate and on an exit without a whole lot else going on, so it is easy to get in and out. We have enjoyed their quick and friendly service, kid friendly atmosphere, decent beer selection, and never a wait for a table (at least in our experience).
There is ample seating throughout the old home turned dining establishment. We prefer a table on the outside wall with half of a booth, also in view of some televisions and the bar.
On our first visit I tried the blackened chicken flatbread with blue cheese cream sauce, andouille sausage, banana peppers, red onion, cheddar jack, green onion, and bacon ($13). This was a healthy serving of food and the blackened chicken was great! I would have liked the peppers and onions to be a little more cooked, but overall this was a solid start to our meal.
My wife went with the fish tacos on the advice of our server. The blackened whitefish served on flour tortillas with a corn salsa, lettuce, cheddar, and sour cream ($10). The serving of fish was very large and quite delicious. She remarked that these were among the best chicken tacos in the city.
The kids burger and fries ($6) was good enough for my often picky son. It was served plain just as he liked it and had plenty of ketchup on the side.
On another visit I went with the public house mac and cheese, filled with andoiulle sausage, bacon, sauteed onions, and peppers ($15). The cheese sauce was slightly on the lighter side, but it clung well to the penne pasta and other ingredients. The addition of panko bread crumbs also helped to thicken the sauce. Overall this was a very good meal and I would definitely get this again. It is filling, so if you aren't too hungry I would go with the tacos or flatbread from before. Or maybe just take the leftovers home.
Overall we have been really happy with the Fort Mitchell Public House and I look forward to another visit when our travels...
Read moreMy date and I spotted this place while driving one night; I live in Louisville and she is just moved to northern Kentucky. The next night we decided to stop in for a meal because from the outside it seems so inviting. We were not disappointed! The quaint Public House offers a warm environment upon entering and the staff do their best to maintain that welcoming warm spirit. While expecting more of a entrees and sides restaurant it seems to be more of an in-between restaurant and pub, however the burger I ordered was among the best I've ever eaten! It was cooked to perfection as ordered with a taste I will experience again when I revisit soon! The fries could have been cooked another 45 seconds to a minute but some might prefer the texture as they are served but for me I would like them a little softer and hotter. I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit as did my date and we look forward to a return soon! I couldn't help but notice how it seemed all of the patrons were having a marvelous evening as I could hear upbeat happy conversation from every table though I could not hear precisely what was being said the overall tone seemed cheerful and fun, as all appeared to be thoroughly enjoying their evening there. The Fort Mitchell Public House must certainly be a treasured spot not only for Fort Mitchell but northern Kentucky. I was so hungry and the Public House Burger looked so good I forgot to take a picture before I ate it, but it not only looked fabulous but had an absolutely delicious taste! I think the burger and fries was 12 bucks. The carrot cake ordered for dessert was also primo delicious with a generous dab of whipped cream to the side which was sufficient to include with each bite of the...
Read moreNice atmosphere with a patio friendly to dogs.
On past occasions, generally on weekends, the food has been tasty and the service good.
Tonight, a Wednesday, the service was horrible and it was not that busy!
It would seem the wait staff was new as the waiter, James, failed to take our order for an appetizer having walked by our table on multiple occasions to take that of our neighbors.
When our appetizer arrived we had to ask the runner to bring us some appetizer plates.
James would disappear for long periods at a time and only stopped by once after at least 20 minutes to give us some excuse as to where our food was.
After another 10 to 15 minutes and us noticing that other tables had been served that arrived after us we asked the runner for our check only for James to appear 10 minutes later with our food - which consisted of a bowl of Chicksoup and a Pecan Chicken Salad - not something one would expect needed a lot of prep time.
He apologized, said that he had talked to his manager, and offered to pick up our two beers and appetizer but at this point it was all to anticlimactic so we just paid for what we had eaten and left very unhappilly.
As they are friendly to dogs we will give them another chance as this was the only time we had a bad experience, but will make sure when doing so that we talk to the manager before we are seated.
We are formally small business owners and hope they are successful but having a background in the food service industry we know that the timing of things is in control, or should be, of...
