Let me start by saying the front desk staff were good. They were helpful and friendly.
Okay...on to the rest.
I've stayed in lots of Days Inns over the years. I've stayed in lots of two-star hotels. I've also traveled around the world, mostly to developing countries, ranging from downtown Damascus to rural towns/villages in Vietnam. You could argue that my standards & expectations are lower when traveling abroad. My standards are low across the board, but this is the worst place I've stayed.
First impression: the lobby reeked of smoke. The second I walked in the door my eyes started watering. It's not a small lobby either...it's not like a heavy smoker had just walked through. I could smell this through my mask.
We went to our non-smoking room, the stench following us. We were greeted with a second wave of eye-watering cigarette odor. I turned on the AC thinking that might clear the room out, but it was infested too. There were cigarette burns in the comforter. I have asthma and am sensitive to smoke. I wasn't going to be able to stay in that room. (As an aside, there weren't pillow cases on the pillows.)
I started searching Expedia for different places to stay. Between the smell in the lobby and the room, I was willing to eat the cost of this reservation if I had to. However I was worried it might end up as a lateral move. Or perhaps even worse. (In retrospect that seems unlikely.)
I asked for a different room, explaining the smoke situation. They moved me right away and the second room was much better regarding the smoke.
The room itself was, well, not so great. I'll just list the things we can remember:
There was only a partial roll of toilet paper in the bathroom. I went and got more but it could have been a problem if, you know, we had to sit on the throne for a while. The doorknob to the bathroom was falling off. The towel rack next to the sink was falling off the wall. There was a permanent wet spot in front of the sink. (Water leak?) I meant to mention that at the desk when we checked out but forgot. There was a sticky substance in one of the cabinet drawers. The towels had a faint hint of cigarette smoke on them. I didn't want to get others lest it end up worse. There was a sticky substance on top of the microwave. The deadbolt didn't work. The other physical lock did though. This was another thing I meant to mention when leaving but forgot. The shelf in the "closet" (you know, the space next to the sink) was crooked. (My wife wanted me to put that...I noticed but didn't consider it memorable in light of the sticky stuff.)
Some of these are little details you could argue. But I've never stayed at a place -- anywhere in the world -- that missed these details. Especially the cleanliness issues. As prevalent as smoking is in Vietnam, I'd never had a problem with asthma at any place I stayed.
We kept the "do not disturb" sign on the door the whole time. The primary reason we did this was because we were worried one of the housekeeping staff might be a heavy smoker and pull that in with them. I have no evidence that would happen, I should say, just something that was on our radar. We bundled up our trash in bags so this wouldn't cause any extra work when we left.
I feel the need to again say the staff were excellent. Another positive is that it's walking distance (for me) to a local pub that is 100% excellent. The bathroom was clean and the water pressure was great. The location is convenient, too. It's close to the interstate so you can get around easily. Reading the other reviews, other people have had different experiences. I can only report on our experiences.
I have pretty low standards for hotels & motels. That's why I usually cruise the two-star places. Never again. It's also put me off Days Inn. I'd rather stay with...
Read moreI blame myself for the poor experience. I traveled to Cincinnati for a conference that was held at the Duke Energy Convention Center. I made a last minute decision to attend and found it impossible to get a hotel closer than eight miles from the venue. After searching for hours online for an affordable hotel in a decent area, I came across the Days Inn at Fort Wright. The reviews were terrible! However, I didn't have much choice and took a chance. I arrived a little early and the clerk told me that she didn't have a room ready. I asked to sit in the lobby until one was available. She then said that she had a room but that I could decide if I wanted it after looking at it. That was red flag one. I have never liked hotel (motel) rooms that are accessed from outside. She took me on the back side of the building where the room was next to one where a really drunk man was passed out on the bed with the door wide open! The room that I was being offered faced a rundown swimming pool that was not in operation. I quickly told her no. I did not want that room. Ten minutes later, there was a room available that was accessed from inside the building. First, the lobby stinks of stale cigarettes so bad that it takes your breath away upon entry! The room was definitely in need of repairs and upgrades and the shower walls looked moldy. Again, the overwhelming stench of cigarettes was awful! I had to spray some of my best perfume around the room just to make it tolerable! The linen and towels were very dingy. The vending machines were empty so if you needed a snack or drink and didn't drive there, you had to walk a few blocks down the street or just be out of luck. Breakfast consisted of cold cereals, bagels, fruit, coffee, and juice. It wasn't terrible, but could have been better. Saddest part of all is that one of the taxi drivers told me that the hotel had just been remodeled! I won't stay there again and wouldn't recommend anyone else staying...
Read moreReview: I recently had the unfortunate experience at the Days Inn by Wyndham Fort Wright Cincinnati Area, and I feel compelled to share my disappointment with others. From the moment I stepped into the room, it was evident that cleanliness and safety was not a priority The room was in a deplorable state, with dirt and grime visible on various surfaces. The carpet was stained and appeared to have not been vacuumed in quite some time. The bathroom was equally unappealing, with a pungent smell that permeated the entire space. It was evident that thorough cleaning and maintenance were sorely lacking.
In addition to the unsanitary condition, the customer service at this hotel is bad. The staff seemed indifferent and unresponsive to my concerns, making the experience even more frustrating. Despite checking out only one hour after arriving due to the unacceptable conditions, for my little boys and my self. I was denied any form of refund, which further added to my disappointment. The staff on duty kept on saying call back in an hour to speak with the manager and the manager never showed up. I paid $174.73 for two nights that I never get to use.
To provide evidence of the room's uncleanliness and poor conditions, I have attached pictures that I took during my brief stay. These few pictures I took serve as a warning to potential guests who may consider lodging at this establishment with their families. It is simply not conducive to a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
In conclusion, I strongly advise against choosing Days Inn by Wyndham Fort Wright Cincinnati Area for your accommodation needs. The dirty rooms, unpleasant odor, lackluster customer service, and refusal to provide a refund are clear indicators of the substandard experience that awaits you. Spare yourself the disappointment and find a more suitable and reputable hotel for your stay in the...
