It has been some years since I've eaten at El Pilon at which during that time, it was under a different owner.
Today, I used their online reservation app to reserve a table for me, my Dominican niece/nephew and my Boricuan friend (Little sister) and her son (my nephew). We had the pleasure of dining under the current owner Jose.
We all have a Caribbean flare, so it wasn't a problem ordering from the menu. We ordered Alcappurias de Guineo, Empanada de Carne, Pollo Guisado y Arroz Blanco y Frijoles y Papitas fritas, Carne Guisado y Arroz con Gandules y Tostones. Let me 1st express how FRESH the food was. There was nothing old or outdated about this food. This was truly 💯% FRESH (Not frozen) homemade Boricuan food. 🇵🇷❤
Jose did an EXCELLENT job preparing each dish that we ordered. We could taste every seasoning and herbs that Jose used in the food. Authentic food at its Best!!💯
The staff was very courteous, friendly and professional. I asked my server to have Jose (the owner) come to my table so that I could acknowledge him and he made time in between cooking to greet us and inquired as to whether we were satisfied with our meal.
Jose, mi Corazon, mi Amor y Amigo, THANK YOU for adding your heart and soul of Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 to your menu items. This was by far the BEST Boricuan food we've had from a restaurant and possibly from our Boricuan friends home.
If it's Fresh, Delicious, Tasty, Authentic Puerto Rican food cooked with Love that you crave, then stop by El Pilon Restaurant on Cleveland Ave. next to Burlington department store. You will be pleasantly amazed. ❤🇵🇷💯
Gracias para todo, Jose. Dios te...
Read moreAgainst my better judgment, I took my family for lunch. The last time we came, there was shredded metal scrubber cooked into our food. I saw from other comments that this has happened to other people as well. This time, there was only one other couple eating besides us and we waited over 15 minutes for service. When we tried to place our order, a young, snappy, very rude waitress came out and spoke over our waitress and declared that lunch was over. It was before 3 when we arrived and it was now 3:10. When I tried to explain (in English since I am not fluent in Spanish) both women rolled their eyes and walked away in a huff complaining loudly in Spanish and left us there at our table. The other couple looked at them and back at us with their mouth open like someone had just been insulted. I was thinking about leaving and should have but was so hungry that we stayed. We placed our orders (didn't get lunch of course) and it took forever to come out. When our food did arrive, the portions were small, it had gotten cold, and was sitting in puddles of grease. We ate what we could and left the rest. This is our last visit. The service is terribly rude, the food is poor quality, the portions are small. This is sad because I've been coming for years. The service was always friendly, the food was hot and the prices reasonable. It seems that a new owner or manager took over when the tiny cafe was remodeled because it was never the same again. Rest in peace El Pilon. You were great once but...
Read moreMy wife and I were in the Fort Myers area for a Marlins Spring Training game. As puertorricans, we always look for puertorrican cuisine restaurants in every place that we visit. This is why that we decided to eat at El Pilon Restaurant because they promote itself as a puertorrican restaurant. The restaurant is decorated with Puerto Rico images and it has a nice ambience. However, Puerto Rico's flag was incorrectly painted with more than 3 red and 2 white stripes. We were nicely greeted and served by the ladies of the restaurant. The food tasted good but not with the typical puertorrican flavor. My wife quickly noticed this with her mofongo and told me that it has more a dominican flavor, who seems to use other spices than what it is used in Puerto Rico. Our premise about the food was confirmed when I asked the cashier which part of Puerto Rico she and the owner were from. To our surprise, the cashier emphatically and proudly told us that no one there was from Puerto Rico. I felt that I was mislead with their marketing strategy that their food is typical puertorrican. As a proud BORICUA, I didn't like this and the reason I gave...
