I absolutely love soul food unfortunately this was not it for us. However, I will review on the positive side as there always is more good than bad. First, I love the name and it’s reference, a cherished honor to the family. We had two orders of the Brown Sugar Meatloaf, love the name as it definitely caught my tastebuds! The sweetness atop of the meatloaf is perfect and it keeps you coming back for another bite! Although, the density of the meatloaf is just that, way too dense, needed more flavor in the meat. It’s very heavy even for my hubby and he can eat! Mashed potatoes was nice and smooth. The yellow rice was parboiled, I’m just not a fan of parboiled as it’s more difficult to flavor and it needed more flavor. The corn was again, not flavorful, maybe boiled, buttery corn on the cob instead. The fries would’ve been great if they were cut fresh or a different type of cut. I will say the potato salad was very good AND the BAKED BEANS was the best in our order! The beans had a hint of cinnamon in it which gave it that EXTRA FLAVOR that sets them apart if you enjoy baked beans like I do. I’m bias with baked beans and potato salad as I believe I make the best, lol! Charge extra on those beans! We visited on a weekday and everything that we really wanted was sold only on Soul Food Sunday, that’s cool though. Each weekday has a different set of dishes and I love that! I would enjoy if they made dishes that did not contain pork (like the beans or collard greens). I tried the Red Velvet Cake and it was really DELICIOUS!!! I will definitely give it another try but on a Sunday!!! The prices are inexpensive and they give you plenty of food. If some of the dishes could be improved, I say charge $20 for every plate! Just because it’s in Ft. Pierce does not mean the prices should be low, raise them up. Everyone here was very nice and sociable, definitely felt like family. Can’t wait to try...
Read moreFor months I wanted to visit this establishment based on a referral, but the service and food received from this place was despicable. I ordered several meals with various sides. I should have known to not trust this establishment because of the no refund policy that they have. When my order was ready, I noticed that there was hair in my potato salad. They didn't offer an apology or the option to change my side. They just gave me another serving of their tainted potato salad. After further review of my order, I noticed I was given the wrong side. When I mentioned their mistake, they dug the wrong side out of my plate and placed the new side in place of the wrong one, which I expressed my disgust. They did not remake the plate and I could only assume they placed the wrong side back in the pan to serve to someone else. Instead of making the situation right, I was told to have a nice day and was refused a refund. Not to mention the chicken wings were fried in old oil. It is truly deplorable that after providing someone food that was wrong and infested with hair that they would try to make the situation better, but they held strongly to their policy that all sales were final, which makes absolutely no sense when they were in the wrong for their service and...
Read moreI've had this restaurant saved in my "Want To Go" places for quite some time. Stopped in 30 minutes prior to closing last night. Our orders were pretty straight forward...1.) Red Snapper dinner with 2 sides, 2.) Catfish and Shrimp dinner with Mac n Cheese Bites and Fried Okra. We also ordered a cupcake and the their rendition of peach cobbler. The only thing right in the order were the deserts. The red snapper was overcooked resulting in a slightly tough texture. The fried okra was good but very dry with minimal seasoning. As the woman at the front desk advised there was no Mac n Cheese left, I ordered the Mac n Cheese Bites. I'm not sure why Gouda cheese is used in Mac n Cheese but it works until the taste of the Gouda becomes too much as is the case with this cheese when used in most dishes. The Catfish and Shrimp dinner wasn't what I expected at all. I received one piece of fish in a styrofoam container. After it was all said and done, we threw the entire order in the garbage... 42 dollars down the drain. I was hoping for a better experience and wanted to go back again. I may try again during daytime business hours as I'm hoping this was just an end of the...
