Archie's is not just a restaurant, but it is an experience. They are the epitome of a unique coastal Florida seafood dive. Definitely one of my wife and I's faves! We ate Archies four times on our vacation.
FOOD
-Pros- The food is delicious and well-made. They have a broad variety of choices on their menu and each dish comes with plenty of food. I do suggest the peel-and-eat shrimp and crab legs. Their drinks are superb. I would try their margaritas and pina colada. And their desserts are delicious. The key lime pie is to die for. Most of their food seemed fresh and most of it was reasonably priced.
-Cons- There was one time where our crab legs didn't seem very fresh. The meat was a bit on the fishy side. Every other time everything was fresh. We also found that some of their dishes are not reasonably priced compared to other local restaurants, specifically the crab.
SERVICE
-Pros-
Most of the workers seemed to work very hard and seemed to do their best to serve customers well. Whoever answers their phone is extremely nice and I feel like he could be a narrator or radio talkshow host.
-Cons-
I would say that this is the bulk of my complaints. Their whole system seems a bit disorganized. They do have customers seat themselves, and due to the restaurant setup, you may not be noticed for awhile and it may be awhile before you're waited on. They could benefit from a hostess, especially during their busier times. Along with that, most of the time, tables were not cleaned off timely and many of the open tables were still dirty and we had to just wait for our servers so they could be cleaned off. I noticed this with other customers as well. They would benefit from having a few bussers. Timeliness seemed to be a major issue. It usually took quite some time to get food and drinks. So unless you don't mind waiting and listening to the live music for awhile and enjoying the atmosphere, that may be frustrating, especially if it's hot and/or the bugs start getting you. Also, though many of the workers were friendly, I did notice many workers had a bit of an attitude. Seemed like the earphone the servers wear distracts the workers as they are waiting on customers. My last complaint regarding the service is them not doing phone in carryout on the weekends, but will take carryout orders at the bar and expect you to sit and wait for it. We did have a worker get our meal wrong that ended up costing us. We specifically ordered the one pound crab leg basket and I even pointed at it on the menu. She rung it up as the appetizer and I eventually had to get more food because she rung up the wrong thing that didn't have enough food. DISCLAIMER: I would say most of these are issues only on the weekends or when they are busy. Most of these issues didn't happen through the work week.
RESTAURANT
-Pros-
The restaurant is unique and vibrant. I've been all over the country and I've never seen anything like it. They generally have live music which is usually fun and entertaining. The entire place has a great vibe and feels like a place to take a load off. There is plenty of seating and parking and the restaurant is well located.
-Cons- I have two major complaints. My first are the dogs. I know being dog friendly appeals to some people and that is a unique feature. But honestly no one wants to hear dogs barking constantly. Not only that, but how can one be sure a dog is safe? Plus, it's kind of gross. Also, the restaurant doesn't seem the cleanest. I understand most of it is outside and that may not be the easiest to keep clean, but as was mentioned before, they could benefit from having bussers.
EXPERIENCE
Our overall experience at Archie's was great, but the experience was a bit hit and miss at times. I think Archie's has so much more potential and could benefit from a few changes, but is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreArchie's was once one of the best locals places on the treasure coast. The environment was amazing, the people were friendly, the drinks were fantastic, and the food was to die for. Now, for the most part, the locals don't go. It is a tourist driven spot. The locals got to watch it go downhill after new ownership. it went from a great place, to a place that has bland food that caters towards people of retirement age, and mediocre drinks. This place used to thrive constantly. The atmosphere used to be bouncing with entertainment. You could not find a seat here at any given point in time. People came from all over the state just to hang out for a couple of hours and enjoy the music food and drinks. Now the locals don't even go. The final straw for me was when I took myself and my family of six after the new ownership happened and no one ate their dinner because it was terrible. I got a burger and asked for it well done yet. It came out completely raw inside. The one and only bite I took of it had absolutely no flavor. I told the server and they told me that that it is what it is. So I told him to please take it back, and I did not want anything else. They brought me my bill for the food that no one ate and I told him I was not paying for a burger that was undercooked and unseasoned. They told me if I wanted it to be seasoned I could bring my own seasoning including salt and pepper and add it myself because they were catering to an older group of people who didn't like seasoning. I told them that I would not be paying for the Berger and they could take it off my bill because it was not cooked correctly. They threatened to call the cops on me so I dialed 911 on my own phone and handed it to them. It's pretty bad when a four-year-old won't even eat his food when he normally devours everything you put in front of him. It's so unfortunate that such a thriving place turned into such a disappointment. My advice is to go anywhere else but Archie's. Try Conchy Joes in Jensen Beach. Or any of the Mulligan locations just save yourself the trouble and stay away...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy family and I went to Archieās this weekend and we had fun, it had been a few years since we have been back. The service wasnāt great, we saw our waiter a total of 2 times, he took our order and handed us our check. Someone else brought us our food. We waited a long while before we finally walked up to the bar and requested if we could get our check. We also went to the bar and asked for to-go boxes. No one came by to refill our drinks either. (We were at a regular table among other people, it wasnāt busy yet, but got busy as were finishing our meal.)
My biggest complaint was when we received our check. I asked our waiter if there was a mistakeā¦when my kids ordered their chicken tenders from the kids meal he, the waiter, asked them what side they would like, chips or French fries, they replied fries. There is a $4 up-charge for fries, I was not aware of so be mindful of that. I did tell him to maybe mention that but it makes it sound like when you ask someone what side would you like, chips or fries and you give them a option, that the fries come with the meal. He was a little rude or abrupt and said I should have looked at their menu. I told him I did not look at the kids menu, and apologized to him for my mistake in not reading it. But mentioned again just let people know there is a charge for sides, or donāt give them an option like he did. Also on the chicken, itās the boneless ones on the kids menu, my daughter didnāt want the sauce, he said it comes with but on the bill there was an up charge for that. The drinks do come with kids meals, a soda, of course I always ask when we sit down if the kids meals come with a drinkā¦I guess here things, like sides, are a la carteā¦so just know that. As we were leaving the same waiter was taking orders and asking everyone at that table if they wanted chips or French fries, so I am not sure if management suggests they do this do this or if itās just this waiter. Just be careful, cause $4 for each kiddo adds up and quickly.
I hope this helps when you eat here.
The atmosphere is so fun. They play music...
