Pierced Ciderworks opened as the first cider brewery in the Treasure Coast in 2018. It is in the former Sailfish Brewing Company building in the Edgartown portion of historic downtown Ft. Pierce. Sailfish brewed the first craft beers in the area and when they needed to expand they moved down the road paving the road for Pierced to come in and take over their old digs. The name of the Ciderworks is a play on words of it's location in Fort Pierce.
Pierced Ciderworks used Sailfish Brewings concept of taking two wood frame houses from the early 1900's and using one as a brewery and one as a tap room. The look of the taproom is industrial with a 20 seat copper penny bar, metal floors, steampunk gears, and pipe work.
The cider is made by fermenting apple juice after which sweetener and flavor is added. There are ten flavors to choose from plus beer and wine. I chose the Coco Loconut which was a tropical coconut paradise in a glass. Other flavors offered included Purple Drank, Pear, Margarita, Cream Soda, and Bad Apple. As I had a long drive ahead of me I could only try the one but I was definitely intrigued by the other flavors.
In addition to seating in the tap room they also have outdoor picnic tables and corn hole. The place was kind of empty on my early Sunday evening visit. I was hoping to find some of the live music other reviews mentioned. The cider was wonderful and I liked their Facebook page in order to get updates of when they have events. I will be back the next time I am...
Read moreI would give this a 5 if it weren't for two things.
1: The bartender was BEYOND rude!! All she was concerned about was letting us know they closed at 10... We walked in at 9:22, VERY eager to try this place and she instantly killed the mood.
2: there was... NO... MUSIC!! Nothing, you literally could hear a pin drop. I'm convinced it was so quiet because everyone was afraid to talk... It was just weird!!
Now to the GREAT POINTS. The ciders, we're great! We did a flight of 10 which allowed us to try all of their ciders. 9 out of 10 we're great! The coconut tasted like sunscreen lotion, but I also have coconut, so take that into consideration. The building itself was nice as well. They put a lot of attention into the building itself. It had a great feel, a good design, just needs more excitement in there... Maybe the bartender had just killed everyone's mood??
I'll be back to give this place another try, and will update my stars...
Read moreAfter learning to love hard ciders in New Zealand, I haven't found as many I've liked since returning Stateside. Most are too sweet and the dry ones often exude a sulphur undertone. When I told the cidermeister at Pieced Ciderworks that I wanted something dry, she suggested which 4 to try in a flight and was spot-on.
We have two favorites now: purple drank and summer sipper—the latter a high-potency seasonal.
We also lucked out and arrived during happy hour, weekdays 3-6, when drinks are $3.
I sipped my cider with some affordable yet tasty albeit untraditional gumbo from the food truck. It's more of a cream soup than a traditional gumbo, didn't detect any roux and could use a better quality andouille, though that's sometimes hard to come by.
The steam-punk motif is also fun.
I've since come back for the Monday yoga class, more purple drank and a growler of summer sipper....
