I had a terrible experience today at the Maysville/Meijer drive location. Our waitress, Ashley, was outstanding. She was doing as much as she possibly could. However, the rest of the staff did as much as they had to and then stood behind the counter and talked. There were five tables with dishes just sitting and nobody taking them back to the kitchen or cleaning the tables. The cooks were also standing and talking, so everyone’s food was very slow and late. One customer ended up leaving while waiting for his food. Another family waited 45 minutes. I couldn’t stand looking at the dirty tables anymore, so I got up and took the dishes back to the kitchen myself. I’ve worked in restaurants before, so this was nothing new to me. When I started to put the dishes down, I noticed there was also a pile of dirty dishes on the line. Not only were they not cleaning off the tables, they weren’t doing the dishes that were already back there. They continued to let me do this until they got the hint and started doing the dishes themselves. A lady asked me if I worked here and told me I can’t come back because it’s a safety hazard. I said it’s also a health hazard to leave the dining room dirty and not have the dishes done. The staff, besides Ashley, started yelling at me in front of the dining room. They told me they weren’t picking up the dishes because it wasn’t their section. I told them the dining room was a mess and they weren’t doing anything, so they needed to help their coworker. One lady told me she couldn’t do it because she was too busy folding children’s menus. Later, we could all hear them fighting amongst themselves. They weren’t even in the back - they were in front of everyone. Ashley finally said “I’m done. I’m walking out. I can’t work here anymore.” I went around to the back to talk to her. She said she’s been working there longer than anyone else. I gave her a recommendation of somewhere else to work. We’ve noticed this Bob Evans has a high turnover rate. We’ll see waitresses a few times, then never again. I was told the manager’s name is Crystal. There was no manager on duty during this time. We’ve been going to this location for years, but after seeing the way they acted today and treated the only person who was slammed and actually working, we are done. When a customer has to get up and do your job, you’re not even an employee at that point and you might as well not even be there. The two ladies who were “working” with her that day should be fired. It wouldn’t have made...
Read moreI have always loved Bob Evans. This visit was not at all anything to brag about. I went in with a family of four, two adults and two children. We went in at 6 p.m. and were seated, which was fine. The waitress came and took our drink order. When she came back with our drinks she took our food orders. In the next 20 minutes she came back several times to get the type of meat someone wanted, bread, potatoes and how to cook the eggs. After we had been there 30 minutes she came to the table and apologized for the wait and informed us that the manager was the only cook tonight and he was cooking as fast as he could. She then came back and wanted to know if we wanted her to bring the food out as it was cooked. I told her yes because everyone was hungry. When she brought the first two meals they were adult meals and nobody had been given any utensils. As the waiter and 2 waitresses were just walking around and talking I went up and ask for utensils so we could eat when the food came. She then brought my meal and said she would be back with the kids in a minute. Ten minutes later she brought the children their plates and again apologized. By this time several other other families had come in and had been seated and had ordered and gotten their drinks. The waiter came and apologized to them and explained the situation. He also told them that the manager was cooking the orders in order and that he also had online orders that he had to cook and they would come before theirs. That man and woman paid for their drinks and left. As the manager I give him credit for filling in for the cook, but he should have shut down the online orders online, advised his people to let people know about the situation of a staff shortage and taken care of the people in house first. Also while the employees were just walking around none of the prior tables were being cleaned. Also why in the world would you cook all the adult meals first and make two small...
Read moreMy wife and I travel twice a year to Texas and North Carolina. We stay in motels, and we visit restaurants that are local or belong to a chain not located in our hometown.
We visited the Bob Evans Restaurant at 5135 Meijer Rd, Fort Wayne, IN, during such a trip. The restaurant looks like a well-lighted coffee shop with a mix of booths and tables. The layout was spacious and clean. There were no rocking chairs or jam for sale. Most servers were wearing Christmas sweaters with their black pants.
We were seated quickly and quickly greeted by our waitress, Erika B. She was friendly, polite, and personable. She chatted a little about how we were and how our trip was going, while scanning the room to watch her other customers. Since we only experience Bob Evans Restaurants while traveling, she let us get reacquainted with the menu. I asked her about the Pot Roast Hash Breakfast. She described it and recommended it. I had it and enjoyed it. My wife had the Rise and Shine Breakfast and enjoyed it. Erika kept our drinks filled and checked back after our orders had been delivered.
I’d revisit this Bob Evans again if traveling through Fort Wayne.
We were checked out quickly, but I appeared to confuse the young cashier. When I use my AARP Credit Card, I always show my military-retired card as proof of identity. My AARP Credit Card says, “See military ID.” The cashier glanced at my ID card and my credit card. She handed my ID card back immediately and stammered, “We don’t give discounts.” I felt embarrassed and explained that I was showing...
