Ok, so let me say this first, the couple who own the place are the sweetest. I met them last night when I went in for the first time to order take out. They both talked to me and made me feel welcome and even helped me pick out food for my picky eaters (children). They were quick and efficient and had my order packed up/sealed and ready to go within 15 minutes. Unfortunately, I didn't look into my bag because they had it all sealed/stapled up. So, when I got home (which was across town on the north east side of fort wayne), I was missing a whole side of white rice. Now thats the best part of the meal to my kids. Lol. They LOVE their white rice. So because I couldn't just drive back there and tell them about my missed food item, I had to spilt the one side of rice between them two. Now onto the chicken. I thought I asked for grilled chicken and to make it spicy. I got breaded chicken that wasnt spicy. The Kung pao chicken was full of peanuts, veggies and LOTS of sauce, not much chicken at all! Both meals came with one side, one soup and one egg roll. Unfortunately, my kids just didn't like any of it except for the rice, which they had to share because again, one side was missing. Its not the owners fault that my kids didnt like the food and I probably won't be going back for the kiddos, but I will definitely try them for myself...
Read moreWent around 6 PM on a Saturday and inside was bustling with patrons and a smell so aromatic that I was even hungrier than when I stepped into the restaurant. I was for sure I was going to get a great dinner with my takeout order. It took me 10 minutes to get home and the food was not fresh at all.
The crab ragoon was stale and rubbery and cold and tough to chew. The two soups I ordered were nearly cold and thick and just not tasteful at all.
I received brown rice and had no idea white rice needed to be specified with some orders. I wasn't asked what type of rice I wanted either as I made my order. The menu doesn't give you an option. I much prefer white rice.
The workers are always nice, and normally the food is delicious when I go at lunch, but not this evening. This is the second time in a month I have ordered in the evening and the food quality dips significantly versus when I go at lunch. I was disappointed this time around.
The delicious aroma and rush to serve a busy and bustling crowd was deceptive.
I've had great good from them before, so I didn't give them a 1 star, but the food was not good and I wasted almost $20. I could have saved a lot of money and just had my less than $2 Ramen noodle cup and been...
Read moreLike others, for the life of me I can't figure out why this place is so highly recommended. Don't get me wrong, it isn't bad at all, but it's not worth driving across town for. It is perfectly serviceable Chinese food, but to say it's anything more than that I just can't agree with.
The food that was most recommended by the reviews I could find were the "egg" rolls, crab rangoon, and the hot and sour soup. The egg rolls are actually more of a spring roll, but I enjoyed them enough to get them again if I go back. The crab rangoon, which is regarded as the best in town, absolutely is not. They are above average to be sure, with house made sweet and sour sauce, but Hainan House beats these hands down. Hainan House's rangoon has more flavor with a hint of garlic, and better sweet and sour. The hot and sour soup at China Palace is great, albeit a little too sweet. I'd definitely get this again. Our entrees were the Empress shrimp, sweet and sour chicken, and the snow white chicken. The Empress shrimp tasted like sweet and sour shrimp, but the other two were fine. Nothing to write home about.
At the end of the day, if you're in the neighborhood and hungry give it a shot. Don't make a special...
