I am posting this for my mother, Therese Boomershine, as she is the one who ordered from them....but I do agree with her assessment. If I could have given 0 stars I would have.
It is sad that what was once a wonderful Italian restaurant has become so bad since it’s sale. Salvatori’s Italian Restaurant on Illinois Rd. was the restaurant we all loved to go to, but the last few times I have been there, I have seen it deteriorate to the point that it is a complete disappointment. I have thought each time that I have gone there, it will be better; give the new owners time, but sadly, that is not the case, and today was the last straw. I do not generally write reviews of anything, as I believe that everyone has different experiences, but today changed my mind. I ordered dinner and paid for it over the internet, and when I went to pick it up, they told me that I had not ordered it there. I knew I had, but they could not find the order. The “manager” said that I could not have possibly ordered it there; it was probably the Washington Center location, but I would never order from there because it would be cold by the time I got halfway home. I asked her to credit my card so that I was not paying for food that I was not going to get, and she let me know that she could not do it because she did not know where I had ordered the food. Then, a younger lady in the back of the kitchen said it was right there. I was able to take home the food I had ordered. I thought several things were amiss about this entire situation. First, the staff was congregated in the kitchen area talking when I entered the restaurant. Second, none of them was wearing a hairnet, and I thought they had to wear something to keep their hair away from the food, but maybe things have changed. Third, they misplaced my order again. Fourth, they did not check the internet orders to see that I had ordered from them, or so they could verify where I had ordered if I had indeed gotten the wrong location, which I knew I had not. Finally, the food was not as good as it was under the previous owner. I feel the entire staff at this location needs to undergo retraining from the hostess station to the manager, and everyone in between, on how to treat customers. Salvatori’s was always known for their impeccable service and quality food. But not any longer. I believe that they have done the Leto family a disservice and should re-name...
Read moreWe are(were) in Ft. Wayne for a baseball tournament and we were recommended by one of the tournament staff members to visit Salvatoris. First of all we are a group of 18+ consisting of tired parents and a bunch of HANGRY 17 year old baseball players ! We called made reservations and without skipping a beat the person who answered the phone was "come on over! We are ready!" That was just the start of it. We were given a table as soon as we sat and promptly had water for everyone and taking drink orders on the spot! Our server(1 of 3) made some great suggestions including the house sangria! It was AMAZING! Tried it and asked for a bottle to share. Sweet but not so sweet and perfectly balanced! They suggested the breadsticks which we liked with the dipping sauce options( marinara and the garlic butter!YES!!!) then to the entrees. The highlights were the Vulsini Scampi( although this shows as an appetizer you can be happy and content with this, a salad and some breadsticks!): spicy tomato based sauce and with shrimp and pasta! YUMMY!!! Lasagna: no true Italian restaurant can get this one wrong if they want to thrive and survive! Theirs was amazing! Layers of flavor throughout! Good portion Baked ziti: great portion and good and even better flavor!!! HIGHLIGHT: Alfredo especial!!! Add the chicken! This was the highlight of the meal! Bacon, peppers, peas, creamy!!!So well balanced and flavorful that my wife took over my plate after eating her lasagna! A must have for your next visit! Only miss was just a need for an overhaul on the classic chicken Parmesan. The chicken should be a Cutlet style cut( born and raised in Brooklyn NY!) this one was too thick and flavor was not coming through. Portion was huge but I know all of our orders would have been fine with a smaller portion but a better prepared plate. Outside of that it was a win! 5 stars cause they kept us happy, our glasses full and our bellies content! Not sure if we will ever be around here again Being from Florida but hopefully this helps out another group looking for a great meal and...
Read moreI've been to this establishment a few times. I've orded through Door dash, I've picked up and have eaten in. The best thing they have is their sausage rolls. They are large and full of sauce and sausage. They bake it golden brown. Throw a little pit of garlic bitter on it and the parmesean and its just wonderful. The cheese bread and bread sticks are really good. I've had their Alfredo a couple of times. The first time was a family size pick up The chicken was grilled and was juicy. The pasta and sauce was great. Eating in was a let down. Maybe it was because we came in at 8:30. But the bf and I both irder the Alfredo, mine with chicken and his with salmon. The salmon was well. My chicken was not. You could it was frozen and boiled. There was no flavor. It was hard to even find it because it matched the sauce. The sauce was clumpy and unappetizing. I don't know if they have different staff working in the kitchen, but my suggestion is getting the baked items. Those always seem to come out really well. I know locals love this place, but they must be only getting the baked items. The atmosphere is quaint. I like the how the structures parcel off tables and dims the noise so you can actually talk to your table. The stained glass gives a nice glow from the bar area. The staff is really accommodating. They are pleasant and professional. The gal we had seemed a bit overloaded with tables, but I'm sure they are understaffed like other places. Pricing is on par for what you get. You do get a lot of food! You can make reservations here and is highly recommended during peak dinner times...
