#2 stop for the biscuits and gravy challenge led me to Willie's on North Anthony by Wooden Nickel. Willies doesn't regularly offer a half order of biscuits and gravy. Their full order is two full biscuits with gravy and two eggs for $8.99. They sometimes have a daily deal that is off menu, which I asked for today. It's a half order of biscuits and gravy with sausage or bacon and two eggs any style for $7.99. The three strips of bacon were nice and crispy without being overdone. I asked for my two eggs over easy. They were pretty close, but a little bit over. And now for the reason you're actually here. This biscuits and gravy is beyond similar to the one I had this weekend in a previous post. The biscuit was spongy, but not flaky at all. The gravy wasn't bad, and it was plenty meaty, but not anything all that exciting. I did talk to one of the kitchen guys and he said they break up fresh sausage in their gravy. I don't know if that means they are using pre-made gravy, but it kind of sounds like it. I told him I really miss the silky smooth gravy from when they were in the previous location. It's nowhere near the same flavor or quality. The breakfast here is really good and a decent value. I just think they miss the mark for the standalone biscuits and gravy. Every time I've eaten here, everything comes out hot and fresh. I really like their all meat skillet with gravy on top. I have not had any of the lunch foods here, so I have no input on that. #onforkstoforks #foodie #biscuitsandgravy

Willie's Family Restaurant was delicious. My skillet made it to the table 5 minutes after I put in my order. The eggs were cooked perfectly! I asked for my potatoes crispy and there was crunch on every bite. I thoroughly enjoyed the addition of onions to the potatoes and the trio of bacon, ham, and sausage was very nice. I think what sets this skillet apart from other restaurants is that they use ground breakfast sausage. The interior decorations look like they haven't been changed in a couple decades but you know what they say "If It Ain't Broke". As long as the kitchen keeps producing delicious breakfast, I'll keep coming back.

The new restaurant where The Chrome Plated diner was located ... and I wished they'd bring the former back. Much better eggs benedict at CPD. The benedict I had here had split sauce with no taste, the eggs were way overdone, the muffin was not prepared well and tasteless as a muffin could be, and the fruit, again (like many places) was just primarily cantaloupe. It was like I just drank water and not had food. I asked my wife about her dish and it was bordering on cold, but not great stuff. Service was good and she was on, but the kitchen could use a redo. Overall not recommended.

I really like this place - it's small, it's quiet, it's home cooking. It's a nice place to stop for an early breakfast. It's nothing outstanding, but if you want some toast, eggs, and hashbrowns, how could you go wrong?

Another reviewer here has left a 1-star review, complaining about the staff and his $10 meal. I was there for that the very same morning, out of sausage and all, and he was overly rude to the staff, clearly fishing for a free meal. He called the server a "hard ass" on his way out for not giving him free food. Don't let his abusive review color your image of this place - it's great. He started an argument with wait staff in a diner at 8:30 in the morning on a Monday.

The staff hadn't said "We remade your food, didn't we?" The reviewer had asked "What are you going to do about this?" and was told "We've remade your meal." He continued on to question the kitchen's competence and continued insulting the staff. The other patrons (including ourselves) apologized to the server for her abuse at the hands of the gentleman who left the inaccurate review.

We tipped extra high and left some notes for our server - everything was excellent.

This place is...

I stopped into Willie's after getting my eye exam across the street and didn't feel like cooking when I got home. Never been there before and was pleasantly surprised. I was greeted promptly and politely. The menu offered something for every taste I might have. I ended up ordering the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich and it was terrific! Grilled steak, green peppers, onions, a taste of hot peppers, and mushrooms (my favorite) all piled high on a grilled bun. Very tasty and delicious, my complements to the chef! Extremely clean establishment, friendly, good staff, and excellent food all at very reasonable prices. I would add that it's easy to get into with ample parking in front and I know that I will go back. I was fortunate to have gone at a time when the colleges were on Christmas break as I'm sure that it stays busy when they are in session given the location on North Anthony. I highly recommend stopping in because of...
