I first heard of Proper at Craft, a philanthropic event that had all the bars in the area competing for the best cocktail.
Within 30 seconds of walking in the door, I smelled dirty rag. It was not the ideal first impression. After I consciously decided to focus on something else, I noticed the cool décor and older music playing, and I appreciated the large bottle of water on tables with glasses ready to go.
The menu is a little book. Make sure to read the rules at the beginning. I've never seen rules like these before! It took me a while to review the menu and I think you have to be a bartender to understand all the different types of alcohol :) I was in the mood for a snickers martini and they made something similar. It was delicious. Only complaint is that it seemed small. Next up was a spicy pickletini. I like pickle juice and this was probably the best pickle drink I've had. The kick from the spice was perfect.
Their menu is extensive and their bartenders are experienced, so I can't imagine being disappointed with the taste of a drink. Shout out to John "nuts and bolts" who according to the owner/ manager is the hardest working bar-back in DFW.
Proper gets SO busy after 9:45. The older crowd dwindles at this point and then people in their 30s-50s remain.
Overall, I really enjoyed my time here. My boyfriend and I took our time chatting over drinks. I would come here again around 8:30 before it gets too crowded. As I mentioned earlier, I found out about Proper at Craft and after visiting and seeing the variety of drinks they offer, I think they did themselves a disservice to serve a margarita. Y'all have so much more!
P.s. I entirely planned on telling the bartenders about my complaint of the dirty rag smell according to rule #6, but I didn't realize how busy and loud the place would be when we...
Read moreI will say the service by the staff and bartenders was great, however, the owner is the reason I will not be coming back to this place. She was very disrespectful and passive aggressive. My cousins and I were having a good night enjoying our drinks and playing songs on the self pay jukebox when the owner decided to rush us out. You could tell staff was enjoying our music selection because they were singing along. Mid conversation with my cousins, she came up to our table and rushed us to close our tabs and started to pick up our drinks and waters despite us not being through. As she was picking up our checks she says “I hope y’all enjoyed y’all’s music” in a very petty tone. My cousins and I felt very uncomfortable with her remark and attitude towards us. When we requested to speak to her to let her know politely that we didn’t appreciate her attitude she claimed she was “too busy”. It was not very busy at this point. Regardless, my family and I will not be returning and I do not recommend this place to any family/friends/fellow healthcare co-workers. It’s a shame that the staff was fantastic but the owner ruined our experience and not worth going back. Seems like she has a reputation for being rude based off of previous...
Read moreWent here with coworkers on a Saturday night for some cocktails. There were 7 of us and we were in a corner table meant for what should be 4 max. We didn’t mind because at least we got a table. The drinks were excellent and the waitress kept coming to check on us continuously which was great. What wasn’t great was that toward the end of the night she was like “y’all haven’t ordered in a while, so either please leave or order bc that’s our manager’s policy.” We were kinda confused and felt like we had to order another round even though we had been ordering a few drinks at a time almost nonstop all night. Our tabs totaled about $400+ combined so the fact that she was trying to kick us out because “they had to turn away several large groups” felt a little pushy especially since we were already squeezing 7 people into a table meant for what really shouldn’t be more than 4. We decided to order a couple more drinks to ease her stress, and then immediately closed out. This would be a great date spot or something, but just keep it to 2-4 people and try not to stay more than 45 mins to an...
