from someone who goes to a lot of venues of various sizes in a lot of different places - this is a special place. the size is perfect to feel intimate but not too small and overcrowded even when a show is sold out, each show I’ve seen here has had great sound (shout out to not only the venue but the sound people who have been working anytime I’ve been there on that) but most importantly there’s just a really awesome friendly and familiar vibe as if it’s some venue you’ve been a regular for years even if it’s your first time and just you feel at home which I think is mostly from the overall the people working each time I’ve been there from the person checking IDs, door person, bartenders at either bar, sound person to management themselves. you can tell that the people here really love and care about music and live music… that’s a rarity these days even when a new venue pops up with the best intentions - it’s really hard and near impossible to find a whole team of people who also are the same type of passionate as the person(s) envisioning their new independent venue they begin out of the same love and passion those at tulips have let alone cultivate really what feels less like a team but more like family/friends AND also are able to get the job done as necessary to make sure things are simply functional. Tulips not only does all this but is more than functional and a truly special place I couldn’t be happier to know exists in dfw and that the hard work you literally can feel (literally they built a lot of the venue I know themselves… literal DIY) and passion put into it that’s reciprocated in the amazing not just a place but really a mini “scene” in a way of always great people at the shows in the crowds (at least the shows I’ve been at… sure maybe 1-2 MAYBE tiny little usual “you walked in front of me wtf” things if it’s a sold out show but everytime ive seen even that it’s not even seconds before its no longer even a thought to the people involved or next to them and more often than not end up watching those involved talk and end up friendly chatting away after the show as cheesy as it sounds but I’ve watched it lol) but seriously the everything there just really is special and a rarity to find these days could not suggest seeing a show here more if you ever even are just nearby with nothing else to do or see an artist you like playing - it’s worth a drive and at the very least just visit. I didn’t even get to the rad outdoor patio back bar and taco stand on top of all that either? seriously don’t overthink it and go out of your way if your a music fan and check a show out there because it’s worth it and there’s barely any places like this I can think of so take advantage of that chance you have to experience it (also it’s helping keep it there so double win lol) because as we all know… the world is an uncertain place and wouldn’t want to regret if you never even checked it out when you could have… although this is an independent venue that I think and really hope will be around for a long time. As someone who sees shows all over weekly if not a few times a week… from the attendee side of things and music fan (can’t speak as someone who’s performed or worked there but just my experience) - if you love or even just like live music or just enjoy places with a chill yet perfect amount of energy to not be too much but exactly whatever you’re feeling mix type of vibe… check out tulips. If I spent this much time typing this - it says something haha seriously.
My only complaint is I wish there were more shows there while I was in town so I had a reason...

Edit- I was introduced to this establishment from a coworker turned friend a few months ago. When seeing a positive LGBTQ+ presence, I felt welcomed and wanted to patronize.
Upon initial contact with the owner; Jason, whom was extremely rude awhile displaying discriminatory behavior, my friends began sharing stories of their own negative experiences with said owner. None the less, I continued to patronize as never having another word with said owner. As apart of the service industry myself, I understand that people have "off and bad days". What I now understand is that these negative experiences and discriminatory situations from Tulips Staff, and Jason himself is not an off or bad day but more of the true culture there.
I was verbally accosted last night by the owner.......after he brazenly interrupted a personal conversation, he continued to speak down to me as if I were beneath him in some form. It is astonishing to me still today that after the amount of time and money I have given to patronize a small, locally owned business that I was treated this way. Needless to say, I politely decided to leave after paying my tab in full and no longer plan to give any business to this establishment.
Fast Forward to today- fraud notification from my credit union from Tulips,!!!!!!!!
I am not surprised to say the least. When I reached out this afternoon ,,I spoke to a very polite woman by the name of Miranda whom very kindly explained that this was a new occurrence that multiple people have been reporting. It must be with how they preauthorize the debit cards, she mentioned. Miranda also mentioned that the Owner should be looking into it as it is becoming frequent.
Just so that we are all on the same page, the following is my experience thus far......
You were rude to me* You have treated me differently than others prior and last night* You were fraudulent in over charging my debit card* You are habitually rude, discriminatory and pretentious with your current staff* You are the perfect example of pretentious and white entitlement*
Thanks for taking the time to read my review. I hope this helps others when choosing where to spend your money. ...
Read moreLet me begin by saying the venue is nice, the drinks were ok (expensive in small cheaper plastic cups) and the music was awesome, considering it was one of my favorite bands playing there.
My major issue is the fact that I came out of state 6 hours away and was thrown out for crowd surfing. Some bands mentioned to do it and some didn’t so it was obviously not clearly stated. The issue is the VENUE, not the acts performing, should state it clearly on the door, exits, on their website for sure, anywhere where everyone can clearly see the rules, especially for guests that are not from that area and have no idea. After the 2nd-3rd time of me doing it I was thrown out. I will admit I have partial blame doing it more than once, but if security told me if I did it again I was going to be thrown out, I wouldn’t have done it again. Let me add that was also the ONLY thing I did. Not once did I act out towards anyone or cause any other issues for anyone else there, and your way of handling it was throwing me out? Ridiculous. I was having a good time like everyone else. I have never in my life been thrown out of a show out of the dozens if not hundreds I’ve been to and played at and I was mortified beyond belief. I’m also not the one to write reviews ever, but I hope others see this so it’ll help them by not making the same mistake I did considering the venue won’t tell you anything regarding their rules. This one action resulted in a potential 5 star to a 1 because I traveled out of state and really went out of my way for this. No one ever expects to go to a show out of state and get rejected because of the venue’s inability to inform their guests of their rules.
In a nutshell, treat your guests better and be clear on your rules. I’ve been to many other venues that didn’t allow some things either but they would post their rules and talk to their guests first, not throw them out immediately as your staff so unprofessionally did. As of now I have no interest into coming back or even referring friends to your location. I hope you choose to handle situations better...
