Heartbroken to Say Goodbye to My Favorite Spot
I moved to Yuma from another state about four years ago. As a single parent with a young son, I was looking for a place where I could feel comfortable going out to eat, enjoy good food, and relax in a safe, welcoming atmosphere. I was recommended to try Wheezy’s, and from the moment I walked in, I loved it.
The atmosphere, the TVs, the energy and friendly vibe — it was exactly what I had been looking for. I loved that I could sit at a high-top table with my son, enjoy a great meal, have a beer, watch sports, and chat with friendly people. I quickly became a regular, visiting about three times a week and always bringing friends and family there when they would come to Yuma. Sunday football, weekday wing nights, Wednesday burger specials, Sunday Pozole soup and even great reasonable breakfast options— it became our place. The staff made it feel like home. Amazing Servers, like Cory , James, Patty, Dustin , Leah , Brooke , Donna and bartenders like Chris, Noel, Marin and others quickly became friends, and the managers Amber, Dre and Shana were truly exceptional. They were hands-on leaders who knew customers by name, helped bus tables, ran food, seated guests, and kept everything running smoothly. Their genuine care for customers and Wheezys itself was evident and was a big reason I kept coming back.
Unfortunately, over the past couple of years, I’ve seen a disappointing shift. Prices have gone up multiple times while portions have gotten smaller, and food consistency has declined. I stopped ordering burgers over two years ago because they were never cooked to the right temperature. I stuck to my favorite chicken wrap, but even that couldn’t make up for the other changes I saw.
Another major reason I stopped going was the experience with a nighttime bartender named Jessica. She always looked like she hated her job, was consistently short and rude with customers, took forever to serve, disappeared from behind the bar for long stretches, and drove away many patrons. More than once, I walked in, saw she was working, and walked right back out.
Even the kids’ menu changed for the worse. When I first came, there were plenty of side options — mashed potatoes and other choices that felt accommodating. Now it’s down to just apples or French fries. My son doesn’t like either, which made it even harder to enjoy going there as a family.
The value for the experience is just not there anymore. Wheezy’s is a goldmine for that area — you have no real competition — yet you don’t even offer a decent happy hour. Why not add happy hour appetizers and drink specials to attract blue-collar workers and families on a budget? It would boost your sales and bring people back. Instead, I’ve switched to plain old Applebee’s, where I can get a $10 burger, a Coke, unlimited fries, and know it will be cooked right every time. Pretty sad, Wheezy’s, when you’ve managed to lose out to Applebee’s.
And finally, Wheezy’s has outpriced the locals — many of whom, are on a fixed income. The consistency, and local connection is gone, along with the all managers who made the place great.
My heart goes out to the amazing remaining team members who are still there, feeling the decline of a place they love — and watching it hurt their income. They have no support. Servers are doing everything: cleaning, bussing, running food, expediting, and even seating tables because there’s no hostess. They do it all! They are spread thin when its busy without the backup they deserve, and they’re the ones who keep the customers happy. Wheezy’s clearly doesn’t value them if they allow this to continue.
Sadly, I decided to “break up” with Wheezy’s about 6 months ago its taken me this long to sit down and write this review, but I don't have plans to go back . . That’s not an easy decision for someone who once spent anywhere from $200–$400 a week there. I’ll always remember the good times, but the Wheezy’s I loved is no longer the Wheezy’s we have today.
Lets Go...

Appetizer came out late as if it were the main entree and we got no napkins. But that’s not the thing. The thing was we weren’t given utensils and the napkins and our server paid zero attention to us. He passed us 13 times and I counted just to poke fun at my girlfriend but then it wasn’t fun. Food came and then we still couldn’t eat cuz no napkins once I had let him known. Then the server proceeds to still pass us by until I flagged him like an airline technician flagging down a plane. He came and seemed pretty calm about the situation and I was like can we please have the needed items to eat and then came back 20 minutes later. The whole time the appetizer and the main entree is getting cold. I drank all my drink and that was a mistake. The moment he came back and brought napkins and utensils he didn’t take my drink to get refilled. So I ate and was choking and my mouth was so dry. He came and said I’ll get you a refill and was still patient. But then he passed 9 times. I had counted again because I was really not having it. He FINALLY came and I could finish the remaining foot but the sides were cold, my hoagie was stale, it was a disaster. I’m not one to complain but normally you don’t keep your customers dry. Normally you find a way to weave in thru tables to check up. It was our first and quite frankly the last time. Sorry but until I can be reassured and our experience can be made up, I can’t say I recommend it. Go to Buffalo Wild Wings or Boston Pizza or Brewers to watch sports games and eat good food. Wheezy’s wasn’t...
Read morePoor service I was harassed about my service dog for absolutely no reason. Then my family and I had to wait over an hour to have our food served.. Now I see the owner has lied and said my dog bit an employee and some random dog what a liar my dog has not ever bit anyone/dog it is a well trained medical service dog. I'd love to meet this owner and employee. Also if a dog were to bite a person and another dog there would be cops involved smh.You people make up lies when anyone leaves a review you don't like. What type of person makes a false claim against a service dog smh just disgusting behavior. My dog can't charge anyone nor can it bite as it has zero access to other people or dogs nor does it have teeth to bite with. Funny I took this to management and expressed my anger towards the false accusations and now they claim they know nothing about this. You should be ashamed of yourself it takes one pathetic person to lie about something so serious ( Also illegal to make false accusations) just an FYI. Such a horrible thing to lie about. If you were better people and business owners and had better management skills you would of said . I am so sorry you were dissatisfied with your visit I hope you give us a chance to make things right ect. Instead you lie and attack an innocent medical animal who is working to help keep a person alive. All over your inability to handle a honest review on bad service....
