Broadway Diner – A Small-Town Gem with Hearty Comfort Food
Broadway Diner, located at 426 E Broadway St. in a small strip mall, is a quaint and cozy spot offering good food and friendly service. The chairs and booths show some wear, and the interior is a bit dated, but it all adds to its small-town charm.
I arrived around 11 a.m. to meet my son and his work buddy for lunch. It wasn’t overly busy, but there was a steady stream of customers and a few DoorDash pickups while I was there. Since I was hungry, I ordered before they arrived—trying a little of everything since it was my first visit.
My meal included fried green tomatoes, three scrambled eggs, country fried steak, fried potatoes, sausage links, toast, and a small dish of sausage gravy. The country fried steak was solid, and the sausage gravy was excellent, pairing perfectly with the toast. The fried potatoes, however, were too thin—more like crunchy potato chips than the hearty, pan-fried style I expected.
When my son and his buddy arrived, they both ordered Roast Beef Manhattans. Their plates looked great, and they said the brown gravy really made the dish.
If there’s one downside, it’s that the kitchen is slow. The food was worth the wait, but it definitely took some time.
Overall, Broadway Diner is a nice little spot with good food, friendly service, and a homey atmosphere. Worth a visit if you’re in the area—just be patient with...

Read moreTook over 10 minutes for someone to come to our table during lunch to get our drink orders. The restaurant was not busy, not even half full. The place looks like it has not been mopped in a decade. The bathroom needed remodeled years ago. The two tables we tried at first had been cleared but not cleaned. Chunks of tile missing from the floor. Everything was sticky. Servers were grumpy. The iced tea dispensers had no lids on them so anything could fall in including the ridiculous amount of flies roaming around. When my plate was brought there was something gross on the bottom. On the plus side my burger was great! They accommodated my "no bun" request well and remembered to send silverware. My husbands tenderloin was huge and he said it was delicious. They do not have real mayo, only generic miracle whip type spread. I have been here 3 times with similar experiences. I will probably give them one more chance but definitely not during my lunch hour when I am in a hurry. The chicken and noodles are gross and mushy. They were nothing like proper Hoosier chicken...
