I usually don't write bad reviews, but this was remarkably bad!
Colorado is home to many authentic, amazing, sumptuous Mexican restaurants. Competition is stiff here and you can't expect long-term financial success if this isn't at the forefront of your business plan.
By far, Las Fajitas is nothing special
Generic rice and beans menu, with what seemed like frozen entrees, all blending into one wet plate covered by canned sauce as flavorful as a school lunch meal. Greeted at the table with a thin slip of paper that clearly stated if you'd like more chips and salsa, you will be charged. A huge no-no for a Mexican restaurant! Small dallop side of sour cream was $3.00. The food is way over-priced for the poor quality and limited quantity.
My son asked for water with no ice, but was served ice with no water. Not too complicated? Friendly enough staff, however.
Atmosphere... This used to be the neighborhood Pizza Hut which stood for nearly 50 years. Looks like they just took down the old curtains and put up cheaper curtains. Same tables and chairs. Decor is cerveza-themed (if you're not fond of that). Lots of Modelo piñatas and two Dollar Store dia de los Muertos framed pictures. Plywood dividers painted brown like a school musical set.
This restaurant's worst attribute is that it's lit up like a Walmart. Definitely do not bring a date here. All just very off-putting! Perhaps they are trying to get folks in and out quickly?
But...
Read moreLet's start off by prefacing this that Las Fajitas has a couple other successful locations in suburban Denver. Living in Denver for 30+ years I've seen the other restaurants but never dined at either location.
As a Colorado native we sure do love our Mexican food!
Unfortunately Las Fajitas fails to meet the standard.
The only complaint is the only reason to go: the food!
The staff are impeccable! The newly opened restaurant looks fantastic! The food tasted like everything came off the Sysco truck! Yuck.
Bland. Dry. From the microwave or from the freezer.
I ordered fajitas. We all love that sizzling hot platter served up with all the vegetables and meat seasoned just right. No flavor. No spice. No authentic taste.
The chips and salsa was chips and tomatoes. My girlfriend asked for spicy or salsa and we were given a bottle of Cholula.
She ordered the appetizer sampler to try and get a feel for what the restaurant has to offer. I noticed that she didn't finish any single one item of the several on the platter and I asked how it was. "Greasy"
Needless to say, you don't have to travel much further to find good authentic Mexican food in Denver.
Here's to hoping they value guest feedback. We live right across the street and would absolutely be frequent flyers if there was quality food to be had.

Read moreDecided to give a new local spot a try after driving by several times after grand opening. We initially walked in and went completely unacknowledged for more than 5 minutes. When we were sat, we immediately recieved water and chips/salsa, which was quite nice, but unfortunately was also the point where the service immediately declined. Our order was taken, after which we sat for 40 minutes without any staff stopping by to refill chips/water or anything. Another 15 minutes pass and our server comes up to ask what kind of base ingredient my girlfriend's son wanted in his flautas, which made it very clear our food hadn't even been worked on yet. After waiting another 15 minutes, our server comes by to ask my girlfriend which base ingredient she wanted in her enchiladas.
They hadn't even started on her food, after more than an hour and change had gone by. Again, another 10 minutes pass and my girlfriend's son and I recieve our food, with no word on my girlfriend's dish. We waited another 10 minutes before ultimately deciding to pay and leave without her dish, as making food for her at home would take a small fraction of the time we spent. Won't reccomend. Hopefully others are getting...
