First of all, I’ve eaten at the location multiple times with my family never really had any issues. However, ordering takeout for the first time and spending $200 was an absolute nightmare. I had family and friends visiting. We ordered a bunch of sushi. We were missing several items and received incorrect items as well. All the way down to ordering a large ginger salad and didn’t even receive the dressing. Paid for a bowl of lettuce. As a young man gave us her food for extra soy sauce and ginger and his response was “ We already put a lot in there.” When we get home there, there’s about six or seven little packets for $200 worth of sushi. I called and asked to speak with the general manager, and I was told he wasn’t available. My name and number was taken down. I never received a phone call, I had to follow up three different times a week later finally having to call myself get to speak with the general manager, which he was very unprofessional, non-apologetic, Handle the phone call very nonchalant, as if he didn’t wanna be on the phone or as if I was wasting his time. I’ll let him know that I was waiting already a week for phone calls back had my name and number taken down four different times. He didn’t seem to care. I explained to him what happened. He said he was going to speak with his chef. I was offered a refund initially when I called by the manager that was in charge that night, I told them I would hold off that. I just wanted to speak with the general manager to let them know exactly what was going on and how bad my experience was. This guy offered me a $50 credit. Tells me you’re not getting a refund because you paid cash. He said that that came from corporate. I told him that I would like to speak with somebody in corporate and let them know just how terrible my experience was. He then Started telling me that he was been working there every day since it opened and he knows how his restaurant is basically calling me a liar. When I called him out and told him, are you trying to call me a liar, he says no. In a very condescending tone. He said that he would have somebody reach out to me, Lo and behold I still haven’t received a phone call. Sounds familiar right? So I called today to ask to speak with the general manager or to get a number from corporate and the woman that answers the phone tells me, “I’ll take down your name and number and have somebody reach out to you.” I explained that I’ve already done that multiple times and have yet to get a resolution to this problem. She said “well, I’m not giving you anybody’s phone number. So I’ll take down your name and number and get it to the general manager, like I said.” Absolutely horrendous, customer service and professionalism for a...
Read moreHard pass. We really wanted to like this new spot near us, but we're going to stick with the real thing over at Osae Sushi from now on. This place wants to be cool and modern but it has a long way to go. We struck out (pun intended) on two earlier attempts to visit during the World Series since the restaurant only has Roku and doesn't have a baseball subscription. On our third attempt, our server was friendly but service was so painfully slow and the obvious cost-cutting measures were laughable.
We arrived a little after 6 on a weeknight, and half the tables were empty. Thinking we'd get good service at the bar (just a bar, not a sushi bar), we sat there. Bad idea. Suddenly a rush of customers arrived and there wasn't a bartender or server in sight. In fact, there was no bartender, and the person who eventually showed up to make drinks was referring to recipes and not sure what pre-made syrups were in the fridge (they weren't labeled, so she was smelling them, hoping for the right one).
It would seem that whoever owns the place is really cheap. For example, there is no real glassware except for sake, wine, and cocktail orders. Water and non-alcoholic drinks are served in a plastic to-go cup with the restaurant logo printed on it. I was confused--are these our cups to keep? Does the restaurant wash and reuse them? (If so, that cannot be healthy given the amount of BPA likely leaching when heated.) There are also no cloth napkins or reusable flatware. Just little black cocktail napkins and disposable, one-use wooden chopsticks. Seems pretty wasteful.
The concept at this place is--you guessed it--music. This seems cool and clearly someone has fun creating the "vinyl" menus, but everything else seems to miss the mark. We didn't receive anything close to what is expected from even the lowest-end sushi spots like a geta or small rectangular plates, or a hashi-oki chopstick rest (we rested them on straws between courses), and we had to ask for cruet saucers for our soy sauce.
We shared several dishes from appetizers to specials and cocktails--all while hovering over the plate, hoping not to make a mess on the bar. I'm not a fan of cream cheese in sushi, but the Velcro roll was surprisingly edible. The jalapeño yellowtail appetizer was good and spicy. The biggest let downs were the lobster and steak fried rice special (wayyyy too fishy tasting) and the jam sesh roll (very little tuna and all fake crab on top).
While I might be willing to try this place again during happy hour (before 5 and after 8), based on the oh-so-slow service, I'll definitely avoid...
Read moreI rarely take pics of my food, I'm too old school I guess. Today, I actually had to take a picture it looked so lovely. It tasted just as good as it looked. The only thing I would have added to the gorgeous Ahi Tuna salad was a wedge of lemon. The tuna was prepared perfectly, succulent and full of flavor. Fresh strawberry and frisee were great companions.
I tried the fried wonton appetizer with the spicy sauce. Oh my gosh! Decadent cream cheese and a crispy shell. Little bursts of jalapeno to give it pizzazz! Just an overall delicious lunch.
This would be a wonderful date night for people who got to enjoy the 80s-90s. There's a TV playing videos from those eras, and even one in the bathroom. Two other TVs cater to the sports fans. Music is playing; everything from Tesla to the Black Crowes to the Ramones. The walls are lit up with bright rock club lights and memorabilia that could have come out of the Poison video that had just played on the screen.
The service was exceptional. Much of the time middle aged women like myself eating lunch alone don't get the greatest service, I guess because they figure the tip will be less. Not so here. Friendly, helpful, attentive and efficient.
The price... this is not a cheap pizza joint to take the baseball team. It's a quality lunch featuring true flavor. It was a bit pricey for a simple lunch of salad and wontons but it was so good! Worth every penny.
This place is almost too cool for the location. I could have imagined this place in downtown Denver at one time. There used to be a rock and dance club back in 1990 that this restaurant reminded me of. Sushi and rock n roll? Talk about fusion! It was a scrumptious treat to return to color, fun and music like back in the day while enjoying delicious food to go with it. Actually, this place is almost too cool...
