Our experience with Michael at Asanka Cuisine for our wedding was a profound disappointment, not only due to the unmet promises but also because of Michael’s poor behavior throughout the process. Despite countless efforts on our part to ensure everything went smoothly, we were met with disregard.
Promises of essential catering support were broken without apology or explanation. Michael specializes in last minute communication that will leave you blindsided and forced to scramble. Michael will not even fulfill the bare minimum - providing the food and serving details to the wedding venue - leaving us to handle it ourselves. He attempted to finalize wedding details with us the day before the wedding, showing a complete lack of respect for our time. Key coordination details were withheld for months, leaving us stranded and stressed when we needed clarity. Michael has a troubling pattern of dishonesty.
Michael was given the opportunity to make things right, but he remained dismissive, unprofessional, and entirely unwilling to take accountability. Trusting his integrity and respect for clients on one of the most important days of their lives would be a mistake we wouldn’t wish on anyone else.
Attached are screenshots detailing some of the events. The final set of messages are from the night before the wedding.
Edited on 10/16/24 in response to Michael and Asanka Cuisine’s message from the morning of 10/16/24:
Dear Fellow Readers,
As a courtesy to Michael and Asanka Cuisine, we extended the option for the wedding venue to accommodate Asanka Cuisine’s food by catering it, with the understanding that we would handle payment ourselves. The first image shows that, on July 23, the venue informed us they would not cater Asanka’s food, and instead, Asanka Cuisine would need to provide their own catering team. This message was promptly forwarded to Michael, the vendor, who responded on July 24 with a simple, "Received with thanks."
The second image reveals Michael’s consistent pattern of unprofessionalism, just one day before our wedding, Michael contacted us asking, “Any idea if Deerfield will be plating the food and managing cleanup?” It’s troubling that a food vendor would ask such critical logistical question the day before the event — a question he had been informed of a full month earlier. Instead of handling these responsibilities, Michael proceeded to harass us with demands to finalize details the day before our wedding.
The third image is from our wedding venue, an unbiased, outside party. It confirms that, two weeks prior to the event, Michael had failed to provide essential details about Asanka Cuisine’s service for the day of the wedding. We, the bride and groom, had to personally reach out to Michael and relay the necessary wedding information to our venue ourselves.
There is evidence for everything we have shared.
Michael, we are not interested in your slander of our relationship or falsehoods. We were raised better. You are a simpleton. We hope you learn grace and decorum. Character is destiny in life. We hope God will reshape yours.

Read moreTrusting Michael and Asanka Cuisine to cater your wedding is a mistake. His communication is consistently poor and unresponsive. Despite multiple reminders, Michael failed to provide the required licensing to our venue until the wedding day was near. We also never received a formal contract until the day before the wedding, despite repeated follow-ups. The so-called "formal contract" was nothing more than an itemized receipt listing only the cost of food items. Over the phone the day before the wedding, Michael repeatedly referenced this receipt, saying, “What does the bill say?!" Michael does not operate his business with proper contracts, because his promises are empty.
He will promise to return calls and fail to do so. He will assure you he can provide support staff, only to show up on the wedding day alone. He will claim to coordinate with your wedding venue, yet neglect to follow through. He will promise a smooth operation, but instead, contact you the day before your wedding to finalize critical details. Michael and Asanka Catering were a major disappointment. Hopefully, this review serves as the only warning you’ll need.

Read moreI’m not sure I can explain the delight I had dining here but I’ll do my best.
It was an absolute joy being able to eat what chef Micheal cooked up for us. Walking In, the establishment is actually in a good hall with other restaurants so you’ll want to head to the back left most stall. Chef Micheal was happy to explain his menu, dole out recommendations, and listen to preferences with food which is a level of service you don’t see honestly almost anywhere these days. We took a seat and waited a just a bit and the food was brought out. Per Micheal’s recommendation and it being our intro to Ghanaian food, we got Jollof rice with chicken, Egusi, peanut butter soup with chicken and fufu, an extra side of plantains and a ginger juice.
The ginger juice (coming from someone who lives a strong ginger juice) was lovely. Very punchy, fresh, and hits you right in the back of the throat. Jollof rice with chicken was excellent. The chicken fell off the bone which was great. It was moist and a little bite of rice, chicken, and plantain all mixed together was perfectly balanced. Egusi was also great, the greens were tender and the meat was a nice textural contrast to the greens. Personally I liked the peanut butter soup and fufu the best. The texture of the fufu was light and springy and perfect which was amazing paired with the soup and chicken.
I truly did not have a disappointing bite here and I am happy to recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a good meal. It was a treat to visit and I am looking foreword to...
