As you can see this unique taco 🌮 shop is in the new and coming part of Franklin along the line of businesses across the street from a large pond. It's a great place to bring the family, date, or a quick lunch while sitting outside on the patio taking in the sun 🌞. I am not sure who the artist is that painted all the murals on the walls inside but it gives this small shop personality that is for sure. I liked the large one on the wall to the left the most because they painted Oscar's Taco shop as is in a fun way and pretty good detail too. Now to the food. After coming in and heading to the counter to the left around all the booths I step up to the counter to order. I am gluten intolerant so I stick with the basics cheese Enchiladas with rice and beans or tacos 🌮 to insure not reactions. I order my meal and head to a bar top stool that could be used for alcohol 🍸consumption but not in use due to covid 19. The food came out very quick and tasted pretty good. It was all the basic ingredients and diffently real authentic Mexican food with out all the tex Mex add on. I have learned growing up in Texas 7 miles from the border that is a Mexican restaurant has orchata to drink 🍸 they are an authentic Mexican restaurant. This restaurant does serve this and fits the bill. I recommend this restaurant if you are looking for true authentic Mexican cuisine but if you are looking for alittle more flavor try another place. Staff were great not alot of English but you could tell it was family owned. I was touched reading the paper of a young student posted on the wall near where I was sitting about what Oscar's Taco shop meant to them. They summed it up like this. Oscar's Taco shop is a fun place to come and eat with the family. So I will end my review on this note. Tell them I sent...
Read moreThis is a two-star rating based on the fact that many have said this is a great "authentic" Mexican food place. It's a Mexican menu...but it's not Mexican food that I would ever go back to unfortunately. I wanted to like it :( Growing up 2 hours from the Mexico border in So Cal my whole life, I've eaten my fair share. Also being married to someone who is part Mexican I've eaten my weight in beans, rice, tortilla, salsa and street tacos.
I ordered a chicken taco & cheese enchilada with Beans and rice. The pico was in it tasteless. The red enchilada sauce was seasoned with cinnamon. Bleh.
The shredded beef in the tacos/ taquitos were probably the only passable item we had. Want authentic rice? You won't get it here. Corn and carrots in the rice. Just No. Refried Beans were made with lard and they were fine but nothing special. The cheese in the enchiladas was horrible and the salsa we ordered was made with vinegar. It smelled like pickle juice.
Either way, I'm not from the south - don't have a southern palette, I'm from the west coast and I wanted to give Oscar's a better rating but it's not authentic Mexican. Decent food? I'd say decent, but not...
Read moreOscar's tacos are the worst tacos I've ever had. The steak is tough and dry, the tortillas are stale, and the salsa is bland. I ordered a steak taco and a chicken taco, and both were equally terrible. The steak taco was so dry that it was almost impossible to chew. The chicken taco was even worse. The chicken was rubbery and tasteless, and the salsa was so bland that it didn't even add any flavor.
I'm not sure what Oscar is doing in the taco business, but he should probably find a new line of work. His tacos are an insult to the Mexican people and to the art of taco making. I would not recommend Oscar's tacos to anyone, not even my worst enemy.
The tacos were overpriced. The service was slow and indifferent. The restaurant was dirty and unkempt. The atmosphere was depressing. I had to spit out the steak taco because it was so tough. And that the chicken taco was so tasteless that I couldn't even finish it. I would urge people to avoid Oscar's tacos at all costs. It just isn’t worth the hype man. Like for real...
