Wow just wow… starting off I just want to say the restaurant is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and it gives a very cozy, comfy & homey vibe. As soon as you walk in you feel more then welcome, not only because of the environment but the staff is amazing and attentive to your needs or wants. I’ve never seen such dedicated, respectful or attentive customer service or staff like them and just it was overall the best dining in restaurant experience. I never felt any discomfort with any of my needs because they attended to me without me having to say a word. They were so caring and genuinely wanted you to have an amazing time at their establishment. Me and my boyfriend shared a few appetizers, a dessert and a ramen, when I tell you it was like you were floating in every bite. The scallion pancake appetizer was crunchy, light, flavorful and flavors balanced perfectly. The sauce it came with was a zesty sweet sour sauce and it just complimented the dish so well. The second appetizer we had was the spicy pork dumplings and as soon as the soup hit our tongue it was an immediate mouth full of flavor, excuse my mouth but sort of a mouthgasm. There was a vinegary sauce and a sweet sauce that came with it that complimented the soup dumplings beautifully. Now the main dish was a classic dish of Tonkutso Ramen, the portioning was a lot for one person (leftovers!) at least for me, but split between 2 people? We were beyond full besides the appetizers. The flavor was great so creamy and you can just tell this was made with love. We added the complimentary chili oil sauce and it was really the perfect addition to this dish (a little kick). To finish off our feast we ordered these brown sugar rice cakes, now at first sight they looked like mozzarella sticks (not in a bad way!) but they were just out of this world. It was fried rice cakes dipped in brown sugar and the first bite taken you have this soft, marshmallowy texture but with a good crunch! To your surprise of the first bite you are welcomed with a pleasant suprise of warm brown sugar melted inside and the whole dessert is so satisfying and it’s not too sweet! I also wanted to add that we got a free fruit tea! (Courtesy of the second day of it being opened) the first sip was pure heaven and honestly you would be suprised of how fresh it tasted. I had gotten the passion fruit lychee tea (which isn’t on the menu) but they were kind enough to make it for me! It was stunning and very addicting to drink. Me and my boyfriend were so excited to try this place as soon as we found out it was opening! We walked out and were satisfied without breaking his bank too much either 😜. OUR EXPECTATIONS WERE EXCEEDED. We will definitely be back here again! It was...
Read moreI stopped by when I realized they finally opened and THIS PLACE IS AWESOME! They completely renovated the kitchen and dining area with brand new everything. The dining area is bright, clean and modern. The bathrooms were spotless. The staff was extremely friendly. They all greeted me with smiles, and the service was fast and efficient Jessie answered any questions I had about the menu. We started talking food and flavors and she explained how some items on the menu are traditional and some are currently popular in China. You can tell she’s passionate about the food from how she talked about it and how it tasted- which was fantastic. I started with the spicy pork soup dumplings. They were perfectly cooked with a little juice inside that complemented the pork dumpling. It had perfect texture and came with two dipping sauces. The sweet and sour sauce was great but my favorite was the vinegar based one. The sauce mixed with the juice in the pork dumpling was addicting. My main dish was the Mala Spicy soup with the beef brisket and rice noodle option. There was so much going on with the ingredients in this dish but it all went together perfectly. The broth was so good I could have drank it straight from a coffee cup. It was spicy but not overwhelming, and the rice noodle are a favorite of my so having that over ramen noodle just made the experience even better. The beef brisket cubes were tender, juicy, and full of flavor. This dish was so good and there are so many options of broth and protein combinations you could visit this place every day and have something new to try each time. The drink that was recommended was the house made passion fruit. It was refreshing and made with real fruit which you could see in the drink. It had a hint of a green tea taste and you could tell they in no way dumped a bunch of sugar in to sweeten it up, it was real fruit juice. Overall, this place was amazing and I can’t wait to come back again to try something new, and order what I had the...
Read moreExtremely overpriced, and the food seemed like it had been stored a long time. It was about the quality I'd expect from a vending machine. For $15+, I got the Tonkotsu Ramen. The packaging is unique with broth in a large bowl with an added plastic insert containing the cooked ramen and other ingredients which you then dump into the broth. (At least the broth was flavorful and hot).
In addition to the ramen noodles (which were stuck together and difficult to separate in the broth), there was half an egg, a piece of seaweed, 3 small pieces of bamboo, and about 3 oz of pork.
Cost comparison if I made this myself: Top Ramen (which tastes better): $0.30 1/2 egg (fresh, pasture-raised): $0.30 3 oz pork: $2.50 2 oz canned bamboo shoots: $0.40 1 piece seaweed:$0.01 High quality chicken broth: 1.00 TOTAL: $4.51 Their price: $15.79
Restaurant food always cost more than one could make at home, but usually not 5X more, and the expectation is for delicious, fresh food that someone else prepares. The food was neither fresh, nor delicious. It tasted like a bowl of ramen leftover in the fridge for a week.
It was also difficult to figure out what ingredients were in each dish. The staff could not help. They just said look at the photos on line to try to figure it out.
The staff, otherwise, seemed friendly, and the place looked clean with a fast food atmosphere.
Bottom line: poor quality fast food for mid-level eat-in restaurant prices. Definitely not worth it and not recommended. Just walk on by and head to Pizza Blitz a few doors down - they make great food at reasonable prices. There are also several, excellent Vietnamese and Thai restaurants in Frederick that cost less with much...
