I recently had the pleasure of dining at El Meson in Freehold, NJ, two weeks ago and it was an absolute delight. This vibrant Mexican eatery offered a culinary fiesta of flavors that left me craving for more. To start my meal, I indulged in the burritos, and they were a true taste sensation. Each burrito was generously filled with a perfect balance of ingredients, including tender meats, flavorful rice, beans, and a medley of fresh vegetables. The tortillas were warm and soft, encapsulating all the delicious components into a perfect handheld package. The combination of flavors and textures made every bite a satisfying and savory experience. For my main course, I decided to try the steak taco, and it was a highlight of the meal. The succulent steak was expertly seasoned and perfectly cooked, boasting a mouthwatering charred exterior and tender, juicy interior. The taco was garnished with fresh toppings, including crisp lettuce, vibrant tomatoes, and zesty salsa, creating a symphony of flavors. The harmony between the tender steak and the vibrant accompaniments was a true testament to the authentic Mexican cuisine served at El Meson. The ambiance at El Meson was lively and inviting, reflecting the spirit of Mexican culture. The restaurant's vibrant decor and warm atmosphere added to the overall dining experience. The staff members were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, providing excellent recommendations and ensuring that my dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. In addition to the outstanding burritos and steak taco, El Meson also offers an extensive menu with a wide range of Mexican specialties to satisfy all taste preferences. From sizzling fajitas to flavorful enchiladas and refreshing margaritas, the options are abundant, guaranteeing a memorable and satisfying meal for every guest. Overall, my dining experience at El Meson was a flavorful fiesta that transported me to the heart of Mexico. The delectable burritos and mouthwatering steak taco were a testament to the restaurant's commitment to authentic and delicious Mexican cuisine. Combined with the lively ambiance and attentive service, El Meson in Freehold, NJ, is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a truly memorable and flavorful dining experience.

Party of 5: We were greeted warmly upon arrival. The outdoor seating was packed but looked comfortable. We opted to sit indoors, where the atmosphere was lively, and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. When someone in our group asked about wine, the waiter informed us that the restaurant is BYOB, with a liquor store conveniently located just across the street. I’m not sure about a corkage fee, but they uncorked our wine and provided nice glasses, which was a thoughtful touch. We were served two baskets of chips and salsa. While the salsa was excellent, the chips could have been larger, and my date mentioned they felt a bit greasy. I ordered unsweetened iced tea, which was clearly freshly brewed and excellent. For my entrée, I chose the Camarones al Mojo de Ajo. The garlic butter and cilantro sauce had an amazing aroma, though it tasted milder than I expected. However, it paired nicely with the fresh Pico de Gallo. The shrimp were decently sized, with five on the plate. I substituted refried beans with black beans, which were tasty but a little runny. The rice was flavorful, though the portion felt small compared to the beans, throwing off the balance. I appreciated that the carrots and broccoli were cooked separately, maintaining their ideal texture. For dessert, I went with the fried ice cream, which was absolutely delicious. The outer layer had the perfect crunch, and the optional banana was a great complement. Overall, the meal was a bit pricey, but the experience was enjoyable. I’d give it a solid 4.5/5.

Real and hearty meal for hungry vegetarians! We had the Vegetarian Platter (burrito and quesadilla) and Nachos appetizer. Waiter suggested we substitute the black beans for the refried beans because the refried pinto beans have pork... good catch... thank you! For vegetarians, the vegetables are not chopped into as small pieces and cooked down as tender compared to some restaurants. I was happy to see a number of vegetarian options. Wait staff was great. We ate, talked, enjoyed the food, enjoyed the whole experience. El Meson has been in that location for as long as I can remember, and for good reason. You can count on them every time for a solid meal and an enjoyable experience.

Worth a trip from NYC!. This is our favorite Mexican restaurant on the entire East Coast! I understand fully the differences in raving reviews and bad reviews here! When the head chef is there you can taste it and when he is absent you can taste it as well! This is regional Mexican cuisine. This chef is from Guadalajara, and makes delicious dishes from his home town. Though not 100% authentic because the chef throws in high end fusion dishes on occasion it is as close to authentic as it gets on the east coast. We have driven here from NYC many times to eat here when craving Mexican. We have had real Mexican in Mexico City as well as LA and San Diego California. This is as close as you will get to west coast Mexican on the east coast and there is nothing even close to it in NYC! Though I have had better in California there is nothing better on the east coast. By better I mean authentic and delicious. If you are looking for a totally fake Rosa Mexicano type experience don't come here. I do not like mole in general. But theirs is authentic and tasty! This is the only restaurant I will have mole at. Their tamales are the best I have had! Their cactus salad is out of this world! It is silly to read reviews from people who say I know what Mexican food is because I am from California (and not Mexico). There are as many types of Mexican cuisine as there are any other kind. Though California does have much better Mexican than the east coast you can have bad taste and be from anywhere. New York City is seriously lacking in good Mexican food in spite of a large Mexican population and El Meson is worth the trip! The waiters are so cute they should all be in Menudo! El Meson is near the Freehold Mall and also the Jersey shore outlets. So you can take a day trip from NYC to...
