Benchwarmers Grill and Spirits — Restaurant in Freeport

It was very busy when we arrived at 6:30 for the all you can eat fish that was offered last night 4-26-19. The only table for 4 was in the corner past the salad bar. The sun was blazing through the window right into our eyes. As the dinner crowd was thinning they were clearing and moving tables for the karaoke that was to take place that evening at 8:30 so we had 2 hours which is plenty of time to have our meal and move if we would like to stay. The waitress was very friendly with a pleasant demeanor. But with the staff constantly moving tables and now we were separated by ourselves in the far corner we were kind of, out of sight out of mind. She did come back and say they had a problem with a printer and our order would be out in 2 minutes. Now 15-20 minutes past the last update, and now past 8:00 our meals started to arrive (at least the sun was now out of our eyes as it had set) the food arrived cold. Cold fish for a very late to arrive meal, yum😖. Let's not forget the karaoke people have been setting up and I think we were in the corner where they would put their speakers and lights. Nice for having dinner with friends to have a conversation with the speaker right next to you and all the lights. When the food did arrive 1 in our party wanted another drink (glass totally dry, ice included, from all the waiting for the food) and she said she would bring it right away with her pleasant demeanor. We were all done with our meals for some time before she came back and asked if there was any thing else we wanted. Yes, the drink from earlier that she would get right away and another round for the rest of us and by the way wasn't it an all you can eat fish? The 3 of us that ordered fish wanted more as the portion sizes were small, 4-5" pieces. The second round did come quickly and was hot. Tasted better than the cold first round because of temperature alone. My wife had the salad bar as her meal, but with waiting so long for our meals to arrive so she could eat with the rest of us the salad bar was for the most part emptied and shut down, so much for her meal. I tried 1 piece each of the baked, blackened, and fried fish on the first round and found all were great except for the temperature. They had good tasting food, no doubt about that. I truly wish that since we didn't have food yet that they would have moved us, when they were moving cleared tables, so we weren't fighting the sun for an hour and a half till it went down, and we could have been where we would have been able to enjoy the show without a speaker buy our heads and lights flashing in our eyes so we were blinded, and we could have been where we got served and not forgotten about in a corner away from where everybody else was with the attention of the staff and people able to enjoy the show. I must say the karaoke people did do their best with the lights and speakers since we were technically in their work zone. My hat is off to them and they did a wonderful job. I wish we could have stayed longer but being it took so long to get our food and fighting the sun to hold a conversation with friends and the angle of view that we had (behind the singers) we left way earlier than we planned on leaving. Not a good first impression but just a bunch of dumb luck. I would be willing to give them another chance because I think the chips just didn't go our way and maybe 5 minutes one way or another might have made a big difference in the way our evening went. 3 stars because waitress was friendly and tied up with other people in a close proximity to each other that kept her totally busy, food did taste good minus the temperature for being ready and waiting to be served on the first round, the hired entertainment karaoke people were nice to us and did their best for us, being that we were in their area. I still have spots in my eyes from the laser lights that would flash our way as we were looking over at the singers and it's the next day. I hope the printer gets fixed that the waitress said the reason for what took so long for our meals to be made. Better...

Ordered the rowdy burger, DISGUSTING!! The patty itself was WAYYY overcooked had no barbecue and was definitely not expecting little bits of shredded cheese as the cheese?? the pulled pork was hard like it had been sitting out acouple days and has onion rings with little to no onion like what?😂 it did come with a little bit of fries tasted like they been froze wayyy to long almost like freezer burnt and NO seasoning on any of the food. Then when i got it delivered they weren't even sure if there was someone who could deliver it and had to put me on hold to see if someone would like why advertise delivery if your not even sure you can deliver. Time to catch up! Moved back to Freeport end of October 2020 aftet a 43 year dissapearing act and had yet to make a pit stop here. Finally did on Sunday. The bartender had dual roles: 1) Bartending 2) Waitress. Talk about being on the ball! She noticed us as we arrived, invites to clear a table right away, came out from behind the bar, took our drink order, gave us a menu, gave a rundown on the days special then within 60 seconds delivered our drinks.
