Passing through while travelling and we were looking for a good breakfast. Saw several good reviews online for this place and were hopeful. Greeted quickly and taken to a table as they weren't super busy. We both got the Big A's special. My husband wasn't a fan of the gravy. I thought it was okay but definitely not TN gravy. It almost tasted cake-y or sweet or something. The eggs, sausage, and bacon were alright. "American fries" weren't what I was thinking but they were good. I was expecting like diced potatoes or sliced fried potatoes but they were basically hashbrowns which I thought was odd because they also offer hashbrowns...not sure if it was a mix up or what. Coffee was great. Service was slow...waitress was nice but she didn't come back to our table after delivering our food until the end of our meal.. which meant no refills while we were eating. Also, there was also every condiment but ketchup on the table which was the one I needed so I didn't get it until I was practically finished with my meal.. Overall food was okay, pricing was reasonable, and service was friendly but lacking. 3/5. Not sure if I would return or not as service while I'm dining in somewhere is a...
Read moreHorrible food!! We waited 45 minutes for eggs!! I understand that they were busy however there is no excuse for that long of a wait. The food was so greasy that there was puddles of grease on the plate...I asked for well done hashbrowns they were cold and nowhere close to well done more like hardly warmed up.I asked for dry rye toast that came dripping in butter...maybe if it was not so unbelievably loud she would have heard me.Then when I told our waitress how the food was she had a attitude and said "oh well you waitressed it is how it is" won't be back...no tip left worst food I ever had for a 45min wait to get it.I was a waitress here years ago seems their standard of treating customers is nowhere what it was!!! I would never tell that to a customer and never had anyone wait so long for food even on very busy...
Read moreGood eveing, so i was passing though freeport Illinois and i came across this family Restaurant called Big Apple. The thing that impresses me the most is it is a family business and even the owners kids also are involved in the business. As I walked into the restaurant I saw this amazing display of fresh pies homemade as well as muffins. I ordered the Filet of cod dinner the fish was okay, But it was frozen fish not fresh I think the fish if it was fresh not frozen it would have been alot better. I had clam chowder and coleslaw with my dinner. So far I have to say the clam chowder was amazing you can tell that it was home made and not just from a can.The environment is family friendly I highly recommend this restaurant to everybody I will post pictures online so you can...
