Yesterday, I had the pleasure of dining at a local Ethiopian restaurant, and I must say it was an exceptional experience. Having tried Ethiopian food in the past, I can confidently say that this restaurant tops them all. Conveniently located just 10 minutes away from my place, I decided to give it a shot, and I'm absolutely thrilled that I did.
I started with the Ethiopian spiced tea, which was a flavorful and aromatic way to begin the meal. The unique blend of spices in the tea was a tantalizing introduction to the culinary journey that awaited.
For my main course, I indulged in a feast of flavors. The greens, mushroom tibs, and fish dishes were nothing short of amazing. The greens were perfectly seasoned, the mushroom tibs were a savory delight, and the fish was cooked to perfection. Each dish had its own distinct character, and they all left my taste buds in awe.
However, what truly made the dining experience exceptional was the warm and welcoming atmosphere created by the husband and wife owners. Their genuine friendliness and passion for their cuisine and culture were palpable. They not only served mouthwatering food but also made me feel like a guest in their home. It's a rare and heartwarming experience to dine in a place where you feel so comfortable and embraced.
I left the restaurant with a contented belly and a strong desire to return. This Ethiopian restaurant has captured my heart and my taste buds. If you're in the area and appreciate authentic, delicious Ethiopian cuisine served with a side of hospitality, I highly recommend giving this place a try. I, for one, will be back soon...
Read moreMy family, bless their adventurous palates, insisted I dive into the world of Ethiopian cuisine. Fortunately, a restaurant wasn't far, a beacon of injera in my neighborhood. The place itself was, shall we say, "intimate," with tables so scarce you'd think they were endangered species, and an ambiance that screamed, "Hello, direct sunlight, right in your eyeballs!" Not exactly the thrilling start I'd envisioned.
We bravely ordered Lentil Sambusas (the Ethiopian answer to samosas, because who doesn't love a good lentil-filled pastry?) and a Veggie Combo Platter featuring the likes of red lentils, split peas, atakit wot, and gomen wot. Being filled with lentils, the sambusas felt practically virtuous. The platter was a veritable garden on a plate, complete with three additional crepe rolls and a rainbow of lentils and greens. The sheer volume of food was astounding; we practically needed a crane to lift ourselves out of the chairs.
Now, I'd be lying if I used hyperbolic language to describe the food, because while it was good, it wasn't a culinary revelation that would send me into a poetic frenzy. It was, however, an undeniably interesting experience, a delightful dance of different flavors on the tongue. Think of it as Indian cuisine's cool, slightly rebellious cousin, with a unique spice blend and an entirely different rhythm. While I may not become a regular, I'll definitely look back on this experience with fondness, and I'd heartily recommend everyone try it at least once. It's a journey for your taste buds, and who knows, you might just find your new...
Read moreThis is a cute, cozy, comfortable hole-in-the-wall, and needs to be discovered! I had dinner there yesterday - initially looking for take-out, and after seeing the hot food (as they served it into the take-out tray), decided to just eat right there! It was too tempting to let it cool down taking it back home first. Good decision too! The Veggie Platter for one was delicious - the red lentil curry, the collard greens, the potato, carrot, cabbage, and the injneras. I was looking for a hot, filling meal, and Haleluya didn't disappoint! Also, a great family-run place, which warms my heart, as I love supporting local small-businesses! And, the owner Halle is cheery, friendly, and warm, and I enjoyed our conversation. The folks are attentive too, checking in to see if you need anything and how you're liking the food (I was loving it!). And the lentil sambusa's were crispy, piping-hot, and tasty with the hot sauce!! Wanna see how it looked ... .check below! I am glad I located them, they're going to be one of my go-to places for tasty, healthy, hot food! Thanks Halle and team :-).
The word needs to get our on Haleluya - if more people knew about them, they'd be making a beeline (actually, an injnera and sambusa line :-)) for this place. Go...
