Pakwan Fremont is a self-service, fast-food type joint. We have dined-in many times and ordered take-out lots of times. Note: I have changed their rating from 3 to 4 stars after noticing improvements since my last review.
This is a review that details our overall mostly mixed experience so far. Food is good, though. FYI: They're closed between lunch and dinner and also on Mondays.
The key to their success is a combination of convenient location, a good amount of parking, a limited but decent menu, reasonable prices, reasonable speed at which your order is ready, and the food that is always fresh, mostly good in taste, and even really good on occasions.
To dine-in, you place your order at the counter and find a place to sit, that is if you can find any during busy hours. Tip: Get there early. The place gets crowded and there's hardly enough space to walk between tables. It can get loud and noisy. You have to get your plates, glass, water, sauces, and silver yourself. Beverages or mango lassi can also be purchased.
The men at the counter are not rude, they just have a typical sub-continental retailer demeanor. So, don't feel offended if they don't appear friendly.
Your order number will come up on the screen when it is ready. The wait time depends on how busy they are, and though they're always pretty busy, they put out the orders reasonably fast. Unfortunately, though, the one time my kids went there, the food took too long and it was not hot or tasted that good. The kids don't want to go back anytime soon.
Phone orders are easy to place and are mostly ready on time. There is only one line for both placing orders and for pick-up, so be ready to stand in line during rush hours.
This is just my experience. So, if you have not yet been there, you must try them, and if you plan well, you can get some pretty decent Pakistani / Indian food without...
Read moreThe food was really good. I got the Chicken vindaloo and my husband got Chicken tikka masala. If you are into spicy foods then I definitely recommend the Chicken Vindaloo, it won’t disappoint. Only thing is that I waited the whole meal for someone to come over to ask if we needed anything else. There was an older gentleman who was helping us in the beginning while taking our orders and drinks but he had to leave and said someone else was going to be helping us if we needed anything. Another worker came with our meals. After finishing both our meals we waited for someone to come over that way I could get water because my mouth was on fire (I like spicy foods so I didn’t mind my mouth being on fire) only thing is we waited and waited and no one came to ask us if we needed anything. We were the only customers there so it shouldn’t have been an issue to get checked up on. Another thing is one person had walked in and the guy who worked in the back said, “we are closed and open at 5”. On google maps it says the restaurant is open. If it’s closed you should put a sign on the door that way people don’t come in and get disappointed. But back to what I was saying earlier, my husband and I started stacking our dishes the way we usually do that way the workers don’t have to hassle with grabbing everything individually, then finally the guy who was sitting at the counter saw that we were stacking our plates and asked if we were done. My husband said yes and then the worker went to get the check. I told my husband to ask for water so he did. The worker got us both water and then we payed our check. Over all the food was outstanding and was really good. I appreciate the older gentleman who was helping us in the beginning. Definitely would recommend...
Read moreWas driving by Fremont last night (Saturday 07/05) and decided to stop at Pakwan Fremont to get TOGO for Sunday lunch. This was around 9 PM at night. Bought 2 Chicken Biryanis, 1 Goat Briyani and 2 Chicken Legs for Togo. The chicken Briyani was a little yellowish like it was mixed up which made me doubtful, but I assumed that is how they made it these days. Travelled for 2 hours and put them in the refrigerator to enjoy for Sunday lunch. Took out the food today and it smelled different before heating. Put the chicken Briyani in the Oven and heated it for 2 mins, once it came out, it started stinking. Tried to take bit of it to taste and the rice was very stale. Called to complain to the restaurant, once guy picked up once I told him the food that I bought last night was bad he passed the food to another guy. He straight out called me that I had not preseved it properly. He did not care to ask when I bought it, did not care what else I had ordered along with it, no empathy or feeling bad for the customer and straight out blamed my fridge that my storing conditions were not correct. The mutton Briyani I bought did not go bad though. Does that mean that the Briyani is bad or my storing conditions? He never even listened to what the concern was and kept on talking about it has never happened in their history. I finally hung up on the phone saying that I will never step into that restaurant again or recommend any of my friends to go there. I am really surprised to see how they are managing to survive in the market by being so arrogant and rude.
If someone is going there expecting customer service good luck to you guys. Attached pic of STALE...
