I really wanted to like this place. We signed in...they didn't ask our name they just pushed a clipboard towards me and told me to put in my name. We were told that the wait would be about 10 minutes. Nope....20, and they refused to provide any kind of menu to peruse before hand, or any kind of shade or anything; we were stuck outside with dozens of others in the sun. And then when we got a table we were told that we'd be sharing a table with another couple. If we had been asked if this was alright I probably wouldn't have given a damn but not being given a choice was a bit much.
Apparently most of their tables are 6-tops anyway so there's not much choice to be had.
I was treated to the hostesses' shrill and overbearing attempts to push the cafe's overpriced iced espresso drinks right....in....my....ear. Fortunately the waitress who came later was somewhat less aggressive....and about an octave lower, so she was a welcome change.
I ordered, among other things, a waffle with whipped cream and strawberries. The whipped cream and strawberries seemed to be the real thing. The waffle, however, was pale & soft. I had called ahead to determine whether they even served waffles, and they said that they did. When I asked whether they were the crispy type with deep holes, they confirmed this as well. But my waffle wasn't. It was pale, barely crispy and just underdone. If I hadn't been so hungry I would have sent it back. The same applies to the hash browns: under cooked and borderline raw. D's omelet was tasty. Nothing much to write home about and slightly bland, but tasty once we found the salt. I got the impression that the kitchen staff was being pushed to just get the food out; there wasn't any real attention paid by management to maintain standards and I think that this is a shame. I think the kitchen staff is capable of putting out better products but there's too much focus on serving as many people as possible.
Our used plates and tableware sat untouched for more than 10 minutes even after the check was dropped off. The hostess returned after we had finished our food to put forth a question about how everything was without really engaging us to determine what we thought. She also put forth the query as to whether sharing a table was alright, and without really waiting for a response from us she just muttered "...that was okay, right? I thought so...." or some such and left.
Finally, $5.35 is waaaaaaaaay to much for a cup of fresh squeezed OJ. When I saw that on the check I damn near bit my tongue. If you go here be sure you find out how much they're plan to extort as not everything on offer has an explicit price.
I might return later, in a year or so, if there are more / better reviews here and / or on Yelp!, but there are other places serving better food with better...
Read moreI came here on Saturday with a friend because of some of the good reviews we had seen. When it was our turn to be seated the lady walked us past the kitchen to the outdoor seating area. Normally when you go out to eat, you're asked where you'd like to eat and if you'd prefer to wait extra for your preferred seating but this place did not ask. Once we got to the back we were sat down with another group. We quickly realized that the backyard eating area is FULL of flies. It was honestly disgusting how many flies there were. they were landing on people's faces, arms, flying over our heads and going crazy when the food arrived. Noted, they do allow dogs in the backyard area but these dogs looked very clean. I have never seen this amount of flies at other restaurants that offer outdoor seating. Finally we asked if we could be moved to a table indoor because of the amount of flies since we felt this has to be so unsanitary and the lady went to ask and she came back saying there was no way we could be moved. At this point I am very annoyed because we made it a point to mention the flies so we'd hope management would be a bit more concerned. Next we order, the food was literally JUST OK. I'd expect my brother who hates cooking and cooks it bad to make this. The eggs were overcooked. My friends' food was OK and my pancakes were very dry even with the syrup. I felt so bad about recommending this place to my friend so I offered to pay, she denied so I told her I would pay half. When the waitress returned she said we couldn't split the bill??? Next we asked for separate checks since we only bought 3 items and she said no again. I get it when it's a big group and it's a huge inconvenience or takes away from their tip amount but this was not the case and it was apparent we were not happy at all with their service, lack of sanitation standards and food. We will never be coming back. Honestly, denny's is 10 times better than this. I wish i had taken a picture of the DOZENS of flies. I would give negative stars if I could.
P.s the other group was also very disappointed with all the flies and...
Read moreCame here for a Sunday breakfast and walked in, there was no greeter ready to seat you. Luckily there was a waitress passing by who saw us and seated us right away. We were seated at a back table and the lights above us were turned off so it was really dark. The decorations seemed really random and cluttered.
We were able to order our food pretty quickly and the food came out soon as well. The food was good and I feel like what youd expect from American breakfast. I had the French toast and the helping of strawberries was generous and fresh tasting. Edges were crispy as well. Sausages had a crispy skin that made it really good. The dishes we ordered all came with salsa.
The main issue was when we got the bill. For two people it came out to $60 plus tip would set you at $30-$40 per person for breakfast. We got charged $8 for "choosing" hash browns potatoes, coffee and OJ was $4 each, strawberries was $2, they added $3 for "choosing" bell pepper with onion topping. The dishes themselves started out at $14-$15 on the menu but once we got the bill so much was added on and not all of it was completely broken down on the receipt. I paid $30 for a small glass of orange juice, 2 french toast with strawberries, hash brown potatoes, 2 sausages and 2 poached eggs which I could get anywhere else as a basic platter for $25 or so. I feel that a build your own platter menu would be better if you're going to charge for the "choices" that your waiters/waitresses offer. I didn't expect the charge for hash browns because our waitress asked "how would you like your potatoes hash brown or skillet etc"
Overall everything was okay but the high bill at the end and the atmosphere is what knocked it down to 3 for me. I...
