Lum's Chop Suey — Restaurant in Fresno

Customer service is bad! Went in there and had questions. When I had asked the lady in the front what the soup sizes were she was giving me an attitude already. She went to grab the container angrily and said all sizes are the same for every restaurant. This is not true. I had been to Chinese restaurants where the containers can be longer or shorter. Then I asked if they had crab wontons and she said yes they have fried wontons so I ordered that along with 2 soups. When I went back inside to see if the food was ready I asked her if they did Shanghai beef there. Again, with her attitude she said no don’t I know every Chinese restaurant is different and they don’t have it there. She could’ve clearly just said sorry no we don’t but instead she made a rude comment. When my food came out I looked and the wontons did not have any fillings inside so I told her this isn’t what I ordered. I ordered the wontons with the cream cheese inside. & she started saying they don’t have that. & why didn’t I say that. Clearly in the beginning I had stated to her if they had crab wontons and she said yes they have fried wontons. She didn’t state that it does not have fillings. I asked for my refund and instead she was trying to argue until the manager came out & told her to refund me back. I had told him she was already rude from the beginning when I walked in to order. When I walked out she yelled don’t come back. Yes I won’t come back because there’s other places I would rather go spend my money at then a place with rude...

So we've been coming to this place since childhood and I go in to dine in today Feb 28, 2023 and we go straight to sitting as usual. The lady who is always very rude says we have to go order and pay first. So no problem we go order n pay and after she asks are we going to tip. She caught me off guard because usually you leave a tip after depending how the service is. So we kindly tell her will tip after we're done. She quickly goes off and starts blabbing all this stuff that there is an automatic tip if you dine in which I'm still in shock because not even at a fancy restaurant you are forced to tip unless you have a party of more than 8 people. We go sit down n she brings us the food and the orange chicken has a hair. Like how am I suppose to tip with things like this. After we had to get our own sauces , straws because aparrently if you don't tip you don't get the customer service you deserve. Im sorry this place is good but this lady is going to have them go downhill with poor customer service. I came back to edit my post because of course we didn't leave a tip for bad customer service and the hair on the food. After we left we get in the car and she comes out harrasing us knocking on the car window sayings we can't go in to dine in anymore because we didn't leave a tip. Who in their right mind thinks they can obligate someone to leave a tip let alone for service like hers. She needs to get fired or fix her rude attitude because she's going to get on someones bad...

My brother in law told us they got better so we decided to try them again. My husband called to place an order. He asked for two family dinners and she said we have to order two of them. He said I know I want two of them. She said you have to order two. They went back and forth with her when he finally said I’ve been going to Lum’s for 50 years and I know the menu. She said you know I have the right to refuse service to you go somewhere else from now on. Thank you for your advice. We certainly will be doing that from now on. We have been going here for years. The food was great back in the day but has been getting worse thru the years. We haven't been here in over a year and my husband wanted to give it another try. What a disappointment! First they gave us one item that wasn't what it was supposed to be. Not sure what it was but it had a horrible taste. Second the egg fu young was extremely thick and raw in the middle. Third the oil they cooked the noodles in tasted old. Fourth the ham was mostly fat and what ham we did get had a funny taste.. We've given you chance after chance but sorry this will be our last...
