Philhouse is my go to in Fresno when I don’t feel like cooking but craving for Filipino food. Their food is always great!
The last time I went was a bad experience in customer service. The lady who took my order was rude. When I started ordering, she asked how many pieces of bbq I wanted. I answered, “isa.” Instantly she said I don’t speak tagalog in a displeased and irritated tone. I was taken aback by her indifference. She looked very Filipina so I thought she could at least understand the basic tagalog number. And she could have at least communicated it in a pleasant tone. I’ve ordered food here before and spoke in taglish with the servers and they were fine and understood me. Why is she in a food front of a Filipino store with mostly Fil-Am customers and not speak tagalog?
Next, she suggested to make my order a combo since I wanted rice and another dish to go with it. Yeah sure. Then she asked what’s the other dish with the same dry tone, no smile on her face and made me feel like she’s doing me a favor for doing her job. She rushed me even. What’s the other dish?, she asked as I was still looking at all the food choices to pick. I told her to hang on because I was still looking. The whole time I felt riled up and realized that this lady has a very poor customer service. She shouldn’t be in the customer facing job. If she’s unpleasant and indifferent to customers, she should be working behind the kitchen or anywhere else in the store without customer interaction.
She handed my food to the check out person to receive my payment and as I was interacting with Jed, he changed the atmosphere to a pleasant one. He was friendly, had good tone, smiled as he handed my receipt and thanked me. I was honestly grateful for Jed for changing the atmosphere. I was hungry and it was not okay for that lady who served the food to be rude. I got her name, but won’t post here for her dignity’s sake.
But the hiring manager of IP needs to improve where to put the right people based on personality. Put the ones with good customer service in the front counters, the ones who are not natural in customer service need to be doing tasks behind the scene. No customer had to put up with the rudeness of the store employee....

Read moreFirst and last time here. Went to try the food as it was recommended by a friend. My husband and I were the only ones in line but the ladies ignored us. Some other people came after us and she spoke to them in a different language. They ordered and went ahead of us. When the lady finally asked us what we wanted, we told her it was our first time there and what she recommended. she just ignored us and walked away again. I used the pointing method and don’t even know what I got but it was not fresh. The food was salty and vinagry. We left it outside by the door, maybe a dog will enjoy it. We will not return. Two stars are for...
