Uncle Harry's New York Bagelry — Restaurant in Fresno

A cute little bagel shop, and what I would consider a Fresno classic! We've been picking up breakfast here for years. During certain seasons of life, we've picked up bagels weekly as an easy and much-loved breakfast by our 4 kids.

I would describe Uncle Harry's as your typical walk-up breakfast spot. They have a large visible case of bagels in front, with a good variety of flavors. Coffee drinks are also available, in addition to a small refrigerator of juices. The dining area is large, and it's sweet to see all the older folks who frequent this establishment as part of their routine 🥰

What holds me back from a five star rating here is the inconsistent quality. We've visited here dozens of times, and likely ordered hundreds of bagels over the years. Unfortunately, it's always hit or miss -- on numerous occasions the bagels have been burnt around the edges (not just darkly toasted, but black and tastes like ash), under-toasted (like barely warm), excessive amounts of cream cheese shmear (or hardly any at all), etc. We've even had several occasions where the shmear was made completely wrong (for example, the bacon cheddar chive contained carrot shavings instead of cheddar cheese... So strange!!)

Anyway, Uncle Harry's is a solid breakfast choice for grab and go bagels... Just be advised of inconsistent quality in...

I go to Uncle Harry's on the daily and have given 5 star reviews at other locations. However at this location I was left dissatisfied. I ordered my bagel sandwich(The Hash). I added bacon, cracked pepper herb smear and spinach to the sandwich. I also asked for it to be hollowed out(girl at the counter had to ask the gentelman in the back what that meant which is fine). After waiting for about 10 mins I received my sandwich. When I got home I opened it up and noticed they had not hollowed out the bagel. The bagel was not toasted properly(doughy bagel no toast at all). It also had no cracked pepper herb smear or alleppo peppers in it. And I had literally 2 pieces of spinach in it. I get this same exact bagel at the riverpark location almost daily and this time around it was far from what im used to. The only thing they got right was adding a single piece of bacon(not 2 but 1) that I had also added on my order. I understand that the location was busy when I was there (9am) but please dont rush someones order specially when im paying an additional $5 to add stuff on, only for the employee to...

Yesterday was the third time coming to this establishment. I only get the “grilled cheese” bagel and the Lavender Oat Latte. Yesterday, there was an older woman preparing the food and Gilbert was taking orders and making drinks. When she bought the bagels to the table, the cheese wasn’t melted. Gilbert came over and noticed right away. He took it back and she put it back in the toaster. When she brought it back, it was in four pieces and the cheese on the inside was melted but the cheese on top of the bagel was burned. I had decided that I just wasn’t going to eat it. Enjoy my coffee and then leave. Gilbert came over with a bag of two bagels and said that he noticed my facial expression and that he’ll remake my bagel for me. He remade it and brought it back and it was perfect. I truly appreciate the care he took with ensuring that we were satisfied with our visit. He’s very kind, funny, and personable.
