Ok if you're a fan of fried food this is a place that does it well and more. What's more?, Well more is fish n chips , Angus beef burgers, chicken, patty melts, and deserts. Let's talk about portion size it's big.. for example in my eyes the kids two piece chicken tenders could definitely feed two people if you and one other person don't mind having one tender each. Trust me the size is good and the breading is not thick. It's always a shame to go out for chicken and you get more flour breading than chicken. To reiterate even the kids size meals are enough for a good lunch. The adult size meals well wow , so unless you're a glutenous pig with a black hole for a stomach then you will be full. What I would recommend, food wise ... Everything, all of it! Yes that's right from the burgers to the fish and even the wraps oh yeah they wrap. The only thing I will sort of frown upon is they have two cake deserts apart from two other types of desert. A cheese cake and mousse cake but sadly they are frozen cakes so prepackaged and not made in house. However the funnel cake fries and fried Oreos and cream filled churos are made in house, and I would fight you on their reputation. Really i'd knock you on your butt for insulting them. Oh speaking on in house at this restaurant all breads are made fresh there in a large Texas toast style that will make you a native to this greatest state of the entire union of America ( I'll fight you on that too don't mess with me foreigners) . Now the atmosphere is homely it's not a large restaurant with a large occupancy still it's popular with locals so you might run into an entire little league team in the place along with most of your gam gams and pop pops in there. Look if it's packed don't be discouraged it's just that good so come back to it another time it's Worth it. The attending servers are incredibly kind and attentive to you and your order. Does that mean they will tap dance your order to you and perform a nice little song and jig , no absolutely not! Be kind it's a small place not your personal kingdom. Now I will say this as well to end this review is it cheap? No and go throw yourself in a dumpster if that bothers you because nothing that is good and of quality is ever going to be cheap. Try JLB eatery and give your taste buds and stomach a good...
Read moreThe food is okay, I had the Cajun fish combo. The fish was quite thin, but again, okay. We enjoyed take-out burgers once. Today I dined alone and inside for the first time. I was greeted by an unsmiling dark haired young man who was manning the front counter. It was a Wednesday at 1:30 in the afternoon and the place was empty. After placing my order from a bulletin board, no menus, I paid for my meal. At this point he swiveled the monitor screen at me expecting me to select a tip. A tip? A tip for whom, and for what exactly? As he stared me down expectantly, I took a pointed look around at the self-service drink station and self-service condiments station, complete with plastic wrapped plastic ware and those tiny little paper napkins, and asked "Is this a full service restaurant?" to which he answered "Yes" with a straight face! It saddens me to live in such a quaint little town like Friendswood and have business owners feel it's okay to burden customers with such tactics. Trying to guilt customers into paying for services they don't receive is probably one reason why the place was empty at lunch time. Here's a concept PAY YOUR STAFF! Don't expect to gain a customer base as a new burger joint in the area if customers are expected to line the pockets of the front counter guy. Perhaps the owner/management should have a meal at Perry's Steakhouse, located here in Friendswood, to experience some semblance of full service. I won't be back. Edit after response from owner: A savvy business owner would have stopped after the first paragraph. Your response is argumentative and suggests you didn't read every word I wrote. I do not wish to, as previously stated, return to JLB Eatery. I'll stick with Pop Top Burger's. Your sarcasm implies that you have trouble finding your patience when trying to make ammends with customers. I do wonder; when you're seated at a true "full service" restaurant, do feel inclined to tip before having been served, or eaten anything? I know the answer to this question, so let's leave it...
Read moreUpdated Review: The restaurant reached out to me, regarding the burnt buns, and refunded both sandwiches. We'll give them another try and I'll update further.
Original review: Hubby and I had wanted to try this place for a while, having read all the great reviews, but today's visit--our first visit-- was a tad disappointing.
Caveat: Their food may be great if dining in, but we'd chosen to pick it up, since they do not offer beer. It's hard to beat a good burger and a beer! That being said, some of the food did not travel well.
Hubby tried the cheeseburger and onion rings, while I'd chosen the avocado cheeseburger and curly fries. We'd read great things about their fresh buns, but sadly both of our sandwiches had burned buns (to the point that both had black rings on top of the bun). The onion rings and fries did not travel well, even though we only live minutes away. I thought the avocado burger might be awesome, had the bun not been burnt, which gave it this weird, greasy edge. Sadly, no amount of beer would have killed that burnt flavor.
The place did look clean inside, and they only had 3 tables of customers, when I picked up the order, so maybe this was...
