I guess I should start by saying I'm reviewing as somebody who has a good chunk of experience working as a server in various sushi restaurants.
Honestly? I love this place. Over the last few months, I've been coming here with my pal very frequently. It's practically become an end of the week treat sort of deal, a nice spot where we can kick back, have a few drinks, and eat some great sushi.
PROS: -Great service. The servers are quick, very friendly, and eager to help out. My friend gets sick when she tastes chocolate, and they always kindly remove it from the tempura ice cream when we order it. The sushi chefs put out food carefully but efficiently. Only thing is that sometimes it's busy, so you have to flag the servers down. That's not difficult to do, thanks to the simple layout of the restaurant.
-Good atmosphere. I've come in the afternoon when it's quieter, and at dinner when it's much more crowded. The energy is great, without being too noisy. Good spot for a date, good place for family. Heck, good to come alone for lunch.
-Generous and good sushi. The fish never tastes off and the texture is always good. Decent sushi to sashimi ratio. I've been to places where they charge double for nigiri/rolls despite it being nearly ALL rice (skimping on the fish). No such disappointments, here. For those who care about such things, they don't appear to put a dab of wasabi under the fish of their nigiri.
-All-You-Can-Eat menu isn't limited to just sushi/nigiri. Appetizers like baked mussels, soup, salads, tempura, and chicken are included.
-Very clean. Tables don't appear to be greasy, no water spots in the bowls, no dried tofu clinging anywhere. Bathrooms are neat and smell nice, glasses aren't grubby, soy sauce bottles are clean.
CONS: -Restaurant layout. It's a double-edged sword, simple as it is. I don't know if this constitutes as an actual con, but the place is V-shaped, with the sushi chefs working in the center. If you sit on the right side of the restaurant, you'll have to walk all the way around to reach the restroom. Not at all an issue for me, but might be for some.
-I should probably warn people who don't like fried sushi that certain types of rolls are prepared in this way (for example the Tiger roll is fried, though the fish is fresh), so be sure to check the pictures on the menu.
FINISHING THOUGHTS I really enjoy this place. It's an unbelievable find. If you feel like sushi, I heartily recommend you check out Hello Sushi at least once. There isn't much to dislike about this place,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been to this sushi spot multiple times and the food is always great! my friend and I get the all you can eat sushi every time. if i had written this review before i ate there on 9/15/2018 then it would have been a 5 star review, but sadly i must lower the score and it is all due to one server, Edward. Edward made us very uncomfortable throughout the whole meal, he would pass by often and every time he did he would stare at us for a good 5 seconds then proceeded to ask us questions about the food (which is fine every server should ask how the food is, but when your asking the same questions EVERY SINGLE TIME you pass by, which with him was about every minute or two, it becomes very annoying). once we were finished with a round of sushi and we had empty plates, he asked us to stack the plates for him??? (again, i don't mind helping out the server but asking the customer to stack the plates for you seems kind of lazy and rude IMO) then when he checked back up on us again which was about the 15th time he did, he asked if we used yelp. i said i did occasionally, then he proceeded to tell me " oh okay cool, well if you go on our yelp page and write a 5 star review with my name in it, Edward, i'll hook you guys up with 2 scoops of green tea ice cream, just make sure you say nice things and that i gave you guys great service, you hook me up and i'll hook you up" at this point my friend and i looked at each other in disbelief and just said "suuuure..." from then on out i wasn't enjoying my meal anymore and just wanted to leave ASAP. we waited to get the attention from another server and asked him for the check and paid with him, then ran out faster than a Russian horse at a Kentucky derby. honestly looking at the guy and watching his mannerisms made me think that he was on a good one, not sure what, but the signs were there.
I absolutely love this place, one of the better sushi restaurants in the Fullerton area. but i will not be coming back here as long as the tweaker is still working there. 5 star food and quality service from the rest of the staff, but -3 stars due to the cracked out server. i would've given a 1 star review out of spite but i do love this place and it would be unfair to them as everything else was great, so ill keep...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBest baked salmon roll I've had anywhere. I love a creamy eel sauce on top, not a fan when sushi places do baked rolls with spicy sauces on top. This place does it right. The avocado in the hand roll that I had could have been riper, like it was cut too early/ tasted too green, but that's just me being picky I guess. I don't do spicy rolls and I can't eat raw fish due to my auto immune system, but my lunch partner was very impressed with her rolls (I believe she got the sunset roll, spicy tuna with crispy rice, and we split a baked calamari tempura [I think thats the name] roll) The miso soup was very good and very well priced at $2 a bowl, a good starter if you don't want a heavy appetizer. We didn't order any other appetizers or drinks, and just had water which was crisp, clean and clear. A little on the high end of price for sushi in the area, but you get what you pay for. Quality food, and extremely attentive service. It was our first time here and so we were taking a while to order, several waitresses and one I believe was even the manager or owner kept coming by to see how we were doing, if we needed help, etc. Once we had ordered, we were asked occasionally but not too much to be bothersome if we needed anything else and how our meal was. I am also in a wheelchair, though I do transfer to a booth when I can. Several employees offered to help me fold my wheelchair, store it to the side, open doors for my friend and I, and even help push me through the door on the way out (the small wheels of my chair got stuck on the threshold) Overall a lovely staff and I will definitely be coming here again! **Not pictured is the baked salmon roll. It came last to the table and by the time it was set down it looked so good and we were so both so hungry I forgot to take a photo we just dug in haha sorry, just lets you know...
