Absolutely love this restaurant. So much that I ate there twice the first week they were open. Food is great, the restaurant is warm and inviting with a laid back, resort vibe and staff are friendly and efficient.
First, the food. It’s really good and you get plenty of it. Prices are right too. For example, you can get three fancy and delicious tacos and a side item for $12.50. Was thrilled to find a new place on the Square that is affordable!
They combine Latin and Asian flavors with flair. For example, don’t miss the nachos on the appetizer menu. Instead of regular tortilla chips, there are fried wontons as the “chips” and when you get the pulled Kogi short ribs as the meat, it’s just a crunchy, cheesy plate of awesome! If you are into sushi, the poke tacos were also really good. The sushi grade tuna was just so pink and fresh.
Loved the taco menu too, where they stuff so many delicious flavors in a soft taco. I loved the Aloha Taco with teriyaki chicken, pineapple salsa and yum yum sauce and the shrimp tempura taco with plump fried tempura shrimp, Asian slaw and a tangy-sweet hoisin lime sauce best.
For sides, the fried yuca spears are really similar in taste and texture to potato wedges and they were great with the yum yum sauce. The tater tots with queso were a perfect crisp texture.
If you are a cocktail fan I thought the drink menu was great too with an interesting combination of Latin and Asian beverages. Of course there’s a great margarita selection. If you like grapefruit as much as so do, you will love the grapefruit Rita and the dragon berry mojito was a sweet and fruity treat too with just the right amount of muddled mint.
For dessert, I wasn’t a huge fan of the s’mores eggrolls- the shell was a little overwhelming for the filling. Next time I’ll definitely try the sopaipilla or churros instead!
Pro tip, come a little earlier or later for lunch- at 12:30 they had a 30 minute wait. For dinner, make a reservation online so you can get in and get your grub on in a hurry!
Bottom line, really great, unique food in a fun environment with affordable prices on the Square in Gainesville. Thrilled with this new addition...
Read moreThe food was great..I had the chicken chipotle lime tacos with a side of chips and guac. The guac was fabulous, even though I don't usually like raw onions. The young male waiter was very nice and checked a couple of things for me before I finalized my order, as I have an alpha galactose allergy (no mammal for me), but my friends had to flag him down twice to get refills . To his defense, there weren't many waiters in the floor though. The atmosphere was aesthetically pleasing (nothing weird or notable) and lots of natural light. However, the music was SO LOUD we struggled to talk, and the people in the restaurant were all loud as well, trying to talk over it. It was a tad pricier than traditional Mexican food, but it appears they are shooting for a different niche than traditional. They offered some interesting dishes with calamari, and something with coconut that I can't remember specifically. Their half and half tea was good too. The portion sizes were optional and the 2 tacos I ordered were enough-not too much, and I noticed they offered chicken strips for picky eaters or those who don't like to venture away from the usual. The only thing that would make me think twice about going back was that LOUD MUSIC. It honestly frustrated our whole dining experience! But I will say I was thrilled that there weren't TVs stuck up on all the walls, and we're only at the bar. TVs are a distraction to the relationships that develop during face to face interaction and conversation, so I really appreciated their absence. The restaurant was on the corner of the new 3 level addition, and very close to the parking deck elevators so it was easy to access. Overall, it was a great lunch out with friends, and will probably go back with family, hoping that the music overload was a one time fluke that the management reigned in. If it's still as loud as before, there will not...
Read moreThis is the third TT I’ve visited, the Buford one, the Marietta one and the Gainesville one. This one is far better than the Buford location but still not as good as the downtown Marietta one. The service was great, the hostess was friendly & the waitress was very attentive.
Unfortunately they were out of their unfiltered sake which is a part of why I like to come here but mostly I come for the fish tacos haha. I did end up ordering a different drink but it didn’t arrive till after we got our meal- which was unfortunate but the manager came & apologized & gave us the drink on the house which was real classy. I ended I just not enjoying the drink because I truly only enjoy that sake, but it was still so nice of them to make it right.
Something I notice location to location is the seasoning of the fish is usually less than the times I’ve been to the Marietta location, the chili crusted fish was lacking a little but overall still good! My only true complaint would be that the Yucca fries were drenched in black pepper, I do wonder why there’s no consistency with the seasoning of the yucca fries because at the three different locations I’ve visited the seasoning has been very different. Buford location has not put any effort into seasoning so I was at least appreciative to have some sort of seasoning on the fries but the black pepper was terribly overwhelming.
Overall the experience was good, the outdoor seating is perfect & the music was great, the food was definitely not bad by any means I’m just comparing my experiences from restaurant to restaurant, this one ranks in between Buford and Marietta. Despite the issue with the drink the staff was really helpful & nice, i will definitely be returning next time in in...
