I suddenly had a craving to go to a bakery and googled bakeries near me and found Pate a Cake. It’s in a quiet, upscale-ish, nice shopping area with plenty of free 2 hr street parking available and a garage. It’s a small cute shop that seems to specialize in Asian/Japanese baked goods with a handful small tables. They have an array of lattes with a choice of an included flavoring such as pistachio and toffee. There is a limited amount of choices of cakes, mousses, cheesecake, etc. on display. It seems that they are focused on cake orders.
I got the sea salt caramel custard cake which was a little pricey at $9 though good quality. It came with a crunchy pack that has toasted almonds and crushed wafers that remind me of Gavottes lace crispy crepes. It’s very light and not too sweet, with the sponge cake the right balance of moist, density, and flavor. The cream is fluffy, buttery, and smooth. I thought that sea salt and caramel flavor was almost too light and you have to let the cake sit in your mouth a little to appreciate the nuanced flavor. It’s right across from Akira Ramen, and next to a bubble tea place, so the location would be good for an...
Read moreI was in the area running a few errands and wanted to grab something new to try; after doing a quick google search I settled on Pâte à Cake. The location was nice and so was the atmosphere; I ordered ahead and my order was ready when I got there; definitely great service. I tried the white chocolate mousse, loved the texture at first but after a few bites it was a bit off putting; I was hoping that there would be some type of fruit or something in the middle to add some variety, sadly there was nothing😕 it had more of a custard taste in my opinion; but it was labeled as just a vanilla mousse cake so I wasn’t too concerned. My husband tried the mango mousse and we thought for sure it would have some actual mango in the middle… but sadly it did not, it was the same texture as the vanilla one and in my opinion had a artificial mango flavor. I haven’t tried the other two options yet (Matcha Mousse and Strawberry Mousse). All that being said, I don’t think I would purchase these again; it is aesthetically appealing to the eyes but that’s about it,...
Read moreI tried most of the desserts here and love all of them. One of my favorite is the double fromage cheesecake. It has this perfect taste of cheesecake yet not too sweet. I’ve always missed Letao, the Japanese double fromage cheesecake. Pate a cake’s version is definitely comparable to Letao. I also recently tried their coconut pudding and black sesame cake. I would say they are much better than what I’ve had before! Price is all reasonable. It’s a true gem in town and I would recommend all to try...
