10/18/24: I really prefer to leave good reviews for good places. I've been to Creek Bottom about eight or ten times. Today was the first time since the flood of 2024. I've been waiting in hopes of finding something good to say in a review. I go there on Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday, mainly for the music. The music varies according to the band of course, and I have seen several good performances and also a few real stinkers. When the band shows up. At least 25% of the times I have gone there the band has cancelled, I guess too late for them to update the website or their facebook posts. After the first couple of times I now just leave if there is no band and don't count that as a visit for the purposes of this review. Today must have just been a really bad day for them. The food and service have never been what I would call outstanding - it is just not meant to be a fine dining establishment. Today I ordered a special that they were promoting on facebook minutes before I left home to go there - something resembling a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich. When the server brought out my partner's meal she says," oh we're out of that special" so I ordered something else. It came out long after my partner had finished her meal, and she's a slow eater. Fish sandwich you could squeeze the oil out of the fish and yet somehow it was cold inside. French fries were hardly cooked at all - limp and also cold right out of the kitchen. They must have been running out of pickle spears too, because we hoth got pieces of a pickle spear about an inch and a half long, like they were breaking them into two or three pieces. And the music... 'Josh and Eddie'. I think I may have seen them here before and if so they were a lot better. Tonight there was something wrong with the sound. The best I can describe it is by saying it was 'muddy' - sounded like they were a hundred miles away and yet really loud. Like they had some kind of processor for the sound that was horribly misadjusted. I feel they were playing and singing well but by the time it came through the sound system it sounded like cha. I couldn't understand the words unless they were playing a song I know. Too bad that this was also the only time I have been there when there was a cover charge for the band (only $5 per person). I guess they need that cover money to help pay for the flood cleanup. I just hope the band got some of it and will use it to improve the sound. Over all just embarrassingly poor. Ratings would be worse if I couldn't look back to other hopefully more representative...
Read moreFirst off I'd like to start out by saying I had high expectations of this restaurant and my family talked highly of them. Our visit took place Jan 5th around 8PM. This particular restaurant used to be a Popular steakhouse, but when it switched to a Brewery/Restaurant I'd figure I would give it a try since I only make it to Galax once a year to see my mom. I gathered all my family (about 8 of us) and headed out to what I thought was going to 5 star food...WRONG!! We all decided to get a Large pizza and wings. Apparently they only had a Sicilian style pizza which was weird but we got the 18" pepperoni pizza. When it arrived I admit it looked delicious but further digging in, the pizza was hardly cut properly and the bottom was almost black/burnt. It was tough to eat although I did get two "slices" down.. (Even though I did throw it up later that night).. Moving on to the wings, which were slightly more edible then the pizza also came out practically burnt. I first thought that's the way they come since they said they are "smoked" but looking at their FB page photos, I definitely received burnt wings.. At almost $10 for 8 wings I'd expect culinary style wings.. Ripoff.
I decided to make contact though FB with a couple comments and we're completely deleted on their page.
I won't be Back there and hopefully by time I come back to Galax the place will be gone!! The place is overpriced esp the beer (almost $5 a glass). If your considering this place, save your money and go to the Galax...
Read moreI just really didn't care for this place. It started when I called about 2 hours ahead to ask if they took reservations (I expected they'd be very busy from the Fiddlers). I was rudely and coldy told that there was no need for reservations, as if my calling was the most pointless thing to do. My next complaint is that items listed on the menu are not the same as what you get. My party ordered a rasperberry cocktail which had been described as having freshly muddled berries, an herb I believe, and lemon or lime. There was nothing to the drink. It was flavored vodka mixed with something berry flavored. That's not only a different thing than listed on the menu, but also incredibly overpriced. While the food's taste was decent, the composition was not. The pizza crust was very nice, but it lacked sufficient toppings for our taste.
Lastly, and my biggest pet peeve of all, was the staff. Our waiter was lovely, as it was his second day on the job. Other than him, I counted 7 other people standing around. Out of the 8, 2 were serving and 2 were cooking. The other 4? They just stood watching people eat. As I was facing them, it was kind of uncomfortable. One woman (who seemed to be jumping from one station to another periodically) texted almost the entire time in a corner. It's really off putting to see staff standing still or texting. I feel that in a restaurant, all members should be working and busy with customer's needs.
Overall, it was underwhelming and would not be my choice for...
